umm.. i dont its total failure. because first expectation of customer is stability and reliable connection which MTNL gives to most of customers.pricing are low compared to market. if u do business u will also make sure ur prices are high but low still compared to others.

well, i totally agree that in terms of reliability MTNL always had an upper hand and in future also they will be having it...but yaar, World is changing and we need to keep the pace with it...Unless MTNL or BSNL takes some initiatives other ISP's r not gonna follow...first of all the download limits must be high...well, for 500 bucks we get around 1 GB..which is not understandable, they need to provide minimum of 10 GB for 500 bucks and for 250 atleast 3 GB at 2 Mbps or 8 mbps speed. And the Unlimited plans should be given a Minimum of 512kbps or maybe an option of choosing 1 Mbps unlimited for another 400 extra bucks...so here are my plans, which sounds good...250 Rs = 3 GB data limit at 8Mbps or minimum 4 Mbps500Rs = 10 GB data limit at 8MBps or minimum 4 Mbps750NU= 10 GB day limit and Free night unlimited at 4 Mbps( 2 Mbps is also ok)800 Unlimited= unlimited download at 512Kbps1200 unlmited =unlimited download at 1 Mbps

Yes download MB limits are less, very less. But speed I wud say if we keep comparing with other countries, even if MTNL gives 8mbps, u will still feel its less compared to other countries. Whereas we were so happy 2yrs back with 256kbps and 1yr back with introduction of 2mbps.I still remember how happy i was when i was able to download 600-700 mb just in an hr instead of 8hrs when speeds were upgraded from 256kbps to 2mbps. and now 2mbps sounds less to me when i want to download big files. The point is we will always have less speed compared to other countries, atleast for 4-5 more yrs. and as a customer we will be unsatisfied in speed case.

well, speed is not gonna make a huge difference if the ISP has capped ur download to 1 or 2 GB...so we need to be given good data limit and gradually boost the speeds to 8 Mbps and then 12 mbps n all, but MTNL wirings r done in stone ages and they cant even take the burden of 2 mbps, then how can we expect that we would be getting 16 Mbps or more on such lines..so they need to seriously think about everything before launching too high speeds..well, right now it looks like Airtel is the only contender who can provide great speeds, since there wiring matches with international quality and thus they can afford to provide great speeds.anyways 8 mbps is not a bad speed, even the average speed is US is around 10 Mbps and in UK its 6 Mbps...so we r doing ok right now, but having said that India's average speed is still 400 kbps or something even after most of ISP's started giving 2mbps.

actually MTNL's copper wires can support upto 24mbps theoretically. Its just that they would need more amplifiers to be fitted it. Rite now the amplifiers are only in the exchanges. They will have to be fitted in every phone junction. Maybe a 1000 amplifiers for every exchange...!!!But yeah... we need higher usage limits... like 100GB per month (;))

Its the new ADSL2+ technology which enables 24Mbit connections.
Most MTNL phone lines still crack. Once they can fix those then MTNL should be able to give 8Mbps as a starter pack. MTNL/BSNL wires are thicker and of better quality than used by other ISPs. I was reading another thread where people are reporting that getting IPTV has reduced there speeds to 256Kbps, which is a good indication that either the MTNL techs aren't competitive enough to handle 3 signals in one line or there line cracks are taking up too much of bandwidth out forcing them to give low speeds. What are your thoughts? PS: I disconnected MTNL phones lines 5 years back.:)

@venkzthey will never say 100GB free! they will rather give unlimited plan.

100GB free thats more like what Private companies may offer.
Govt. will say Unlimited for sure.:)

anyways 100GB will not be made available to us for at least 2 years..but its possible that some plans which currently gives 1 GB data limit might be upgraded to 10 GB or more.
