I am using Galaxy 3 since last 1 month now, Good phone for people with limited budget but itch to explore a lot :-)

Sad thing is Samsung seems to be in No Hurry for Froyo update for Galaxy3, Today itself i found they plan to release it in April-2011 which no doubt can take more time.

While gingerbread going to hit the Android phone market very fast, its sad that samsung left Galaxy3 users on bullock cart to chase the fastest growing OS in mobile industry,
Andy Rubin: More Than 300000 Daily Android Activations

With that said, I am going to install custom version of froyo on my galaxy 3 in next couple of days.

Hoping I won't make it a brick or a paper-weight item.

Oh sorry. I forgot that Wave II comes with bada OS.

Mine would be Nexus S, would be with me towards mid Jan. Any advice for an android newbie ? Do I need to root it ? I never jailbroken my iPhone except for 24 hrs just to check it out, but always liked the original firmware. Though I understand that jailbreak gives lots of power to the user on an iphone, since android being open & unrestricted in many ways, why root at all ?

Awesome offer, saw this just now, would not have bought Nexus S.

the only reason to jailbreak nexus s would be to run optimized builds which would probably give better performance. and let you run apps that are not possible on official builds.

Right, but the stock android already have everything that a user would want. I dont wanna overclock CPU to run apps more faster than what it already is. Do we have something to read for android noobs like me ?

well. mods of android builds are optimized for performance. so they give out better results on benchmarks. and there are some apps that won't run on stock android. requires rooting of the phone (jailbreak). like taking screenshots on the phone. android does not allow that by default.
