The WAN port, of course, which is named "modem". I am aware that the modem has a WAN port, 4 LAN ports and the wireless thing. The modem is connected to the WAN of the router, and the computer is connected to the LAN of the router. The telephone line is connected to the modem.thanks.

@essbebe:I went through the whole thread, that post does not help at all as it does not address the modem side of things. I am able to access the modem settings only if I have static IP on the router, which means I can't do pppoe; if I have the router set up for pppoe, I cant access the modem. I use dialer mode; if some one can help with internal dialer settings (the bsnl page does not work for me), then things would be a bit easier, I guess.

PROBLEM

I have a BSNL Dataone ADSL2 modem (UT300R2U), and a Belkin Wireless G Router (model F5D7234-4 v4).

While I can connect to both the router and the modem if I use static ip on the router, I am not able to connect to the internet using pppoe. If I use pppoe on the router, the modem is not accessible. Any tips on settings? thanks in advance.

I use dialer mode
Try "Always On " ppp /PPPoE mode.
Enable DHCP.
In computer
Start Network /LAN or wireless LAN
Properties TCP/IP
Properties
Obtain IP address automatically.
Apply Save.

Open a webbrowser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera). Enter the IP address of your router in the address bar of the browser and press enter. The IP address of your router is by default 192.168.2.1

You see a box asking for your password. By default the password is blank
Enter your password and click the submit button to continue.

Now can you access the modem and belkin pages ?

you have setup pppoe on the router and not the modem right?? dhcp enabled in router and not modem right?

I use a type 1 modem; this is a type 2 modem wiki. My modem is dataone, not starcom.

Now can you access the modem and Belkin pages ?
Like I said, I can access the modem and belkin pages if I have static ip setup on router. The router does not get the ip address of the type I modem automatically for some reason. Is there a work around for this?

I am not aware of any "dataone" modem. please give model make/number.
Or post screen shot of the device status of your "dataone" modem
