new hard disk

i am planning to buy a SSD of 32GB for USD 109 at newegg.

how are SDD compared to ordinary drives?
i m keen on SSD 7200rpm 2.5 inch for my toshiba lappy..

SSD doesn't spin I guess.

Why you are keen on purchasing SSD? As it is they are too costly and 32GB will run out in no time.

SSD are 2x faster than ordinary hdds bcz there is no motors and requires less power to run. hence saves battery and increases battery life.

So you basically want to save power on your hard disk.I would suggest you wait for few days before the prices of SSD come down unless if you will be writing some sort of review on SSDs.I'm sure you will repent later when you will get 320GB SSD at the price of present 32GB one's cost.

zeo ... you r right.. i have time till feb 7th 2010. I m waiting till then as my parents will be coming from us during that time. so can buy from newegg in feb ... lets see how much I can gain in this periiod.

Solid State Drive Cautions:Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive. Turn off or disable any applications or utilities that defragment the SSD - Antivirus, Anti Spyware, Optimize Utilities, etc. or set them to not defragment your SSD.

yeap. defrag operations are pretty hard on flash drives.
