Hi,I am new to computers and Broadband.I have just bought an DataOne broadband from BSNL.They have given me an ZXDSL 831a11 ZTE modem but have not yet come for installation.I was just going through the diff. cables they have given and was surprised to note that in my computer which I have recently bought (2nd hand),i could not find any port which resembles ethernet port on the modem.Does this mean that I don't have any LAN cord (Ethernet) port in my system which means that I will not be able to use BB?I do have USB port on my machine.can I use USB port for connecting that modem as I can see that they have given me an USB cord also ?Please suggest. thanks

you can use any one of the port---ethernet or usb.in case of usb port you have to install the usb drivers for the modem from a cd which should be provided with the modem.

yes u can use USB for that, first check for the drivers CD and then install them to your pc, then connect it using the USB cord provided with the modem.

In some places (like mine), they are NOT giving the CD (they themselves don't get them). But you should ask them to load the USB driver for your system and at that time keep a copy with you on your harddisk. If you are not able to get the USBdriver, post a request and someone will upload it. I, myself, do not have the said model of modem. But somebody of this forum definitely will help you.

have you got ur USB Driver disc bec i can't. anybody have UTSTAR300R2U ADSL 2+ (Type-I according to BSNL), then, please upload its USB driver.Ethernet is faster then USB. but if i want to connect it to another PC i have to usb. bec BSNL person says that u can't connect ethernet cable to any other pc bec it tracks the MAC address of my LAN card.please provide driver!!!!!!!!!

Look at the top of this page. Click the link IndiaBroadbandWIKI.

Download the USB drivers to your Harddisk say C:/ibf usb drivers.
Then connect the USB cable to Computer USB port and start the computer. Let Windows detect New Hardware and follow instructions for installing drivers.
You can connect more than two computers if you need , with the single LAN internet connection !
Forget what BSNL person told you !
