If Nokia X succeeds, MS/Nokia may stop Windows Phone (or go slow on WP) and shift focus more on such Android based phones :DThen developers may not have to worry :)

Yes, folks, this is real life. In an interview with Wired, at the Apps World North America conference, Steve Wozniak revealed his belief that Apple should create a phone using Google's Android operating system. According to him, "There's nothing that would keep Apple out of the Android market as a secondary phone market ... We could play in two arenas at the same time." As Wired's Mat Honan notes, the idea of such a handset wouldn't be technically impossible, but anyone who's familiar with the Apple of today knows that the chances of this actually happening are slim to none.
So if Apple Co-founder thinks that Apple can make (and sell more phones by using) Android OS, so what is wrong in MS/Nokia thinking same :D
They want to sell more "phones" not OS I suppose, so whatever helps them in achieving it, companies should go for it I feel.

No one has cared what Woz has said in the past decade at Apple. His opinion is his personal opinion and does not change anything at Apple.
As for Microsoft... They want to sell products powered by their ecosystem. They want people to be locked on to Windows and Office and Xbox and Azure.
They are a software company not a hardware company. They make money from licensing their software. And they already (reportedly) make a couple of billion dollars from patent deals with Android manufacturers.
Launching an Android based device would basically admitting that their Windows Phone platform has failed. This is not something Microsoft would want to do. Android does not give them the kind of control they have over Windows Phone. And Android without Google Play Services would provide a mediocre user experience because you would be totally isolated from your friends who are using Google authorized Android devices.
Plus. Android does not solve their problem. It requires a significantly powerful hardware to deliver decent performance. So it's not like Android can easily replace Asha Platform for them for cheaper devices. I mean it's not like Microsoft would be able to offer you better hardware at prices lower than Samsung and local players. And even if they are somehow able to, it's not like it would offer anywhere near same usability to the end user. Microsoft would of course also have to create their own alternative ecosystem to Play Services. That means creating alternatives for features like: location, maps, games, sign-in, billing, app store etc etc. Developers would have to customize their apps for Nokia devices to accommodate these changes. Even Amazon has stayed away from launching an Android based device till now though it might finally arrive later this year coz they have worked on the alternative ecosystem for the last couple of years and can offer comparable user experience.

Why Android? Why not carry on with existing S40?
These are questions anybody can think if MS/Nokia indeed planning Android for ASHA phones which were so far based on Java based OS known as S40.

Exactly. Asha Platform has performed well for them. Allows them to have devices that can offer a decent battery life without bundling in a huge ass battery. Android would require just too many compromises to fit their budget segment market.
I am assuming that Nokia X would become a Nokia N9 like showcase model which would get limited support in the future and would become a cult product.
Though Microsoft can surprise us all with a brand new leadership at the top.
