I thought somebody already confirmed that atleast in Mumbai you dont need to switch on/off the modem. you can keep your modem on and just schedule your downloads to start after midnight.

well, as per my personal experience u really don't need to switch it off/on at 12 or 8 am...i lose my data usage only between 8 am and midnight...doesn't matter when i connected it... i just do the disconnections so that i have a record of everything...that's it :)

also make sure ur time is in sync with the MTNL server time...it's a bit fast according to all my clocks and watches...i log off at around 7:54 am and it shows exactly 8:00 am...so just see what it is for u...just do disconnect once and see the exact time of ur PC and correspond it with the MTNL server time in the account usage page...u'll see the time difference...so set it according to that...

i'll see if it works for me when i reach home...

thanks for the solution mate :D keept it up!!!

hey cb79 i started downloading at around 6:40am this morning and switched off the router at about 7:58 am (according to 174) but now the seesion history shows i dissconnected at 8:03 A.M. am i in rouble becoz i downloaded (and ofcourse uploaded) around 150mb data in this much time. also i wanted to tell u all that uploads are not free and they count for ur MB used! :o
also can u redefine what adsl mb means on acct. summary page?

1. They'll deduct just what u've downloaded after 8:00 am according to their server time...and do sync ur time with their server as i already stated...in my case, it's around 5 mins fast...so u've to find that out urself...2. Your uploads don't count in ur usage...only what you download is deducted from ur quota...just try running some torrent of say 5 MB, or so and check for urself...and if u're telling me that, then i'd also find that out, but till now i've not faced that problem...3. ADSL MB is the remaning quota for any given month...as u're in NU, it'll deduct for whatever u "download" between 8 am to 12 midnight...enjoy!!! :D

Hi Guys,Refer to the 1st post in this topic. I have finally tried the solution on my DSL 502T and it WORKS !!The only additional thing which u need to do in addition to the things already mentioned in the 1st post is to disable DHCP from Home>>DHCP in the modem settings page, scroll down click apply then goto tools>>system>> and click save and reboot. Now while the modem reboots assign a static IP to ur lan card...use 192.168.1.3 ; put the mask in as 255.255.255.0 and Gateway as 192.168.1.1 ; use the following DNS - Primary 203.94.243.70 ; secondary 203.94.227.70Goto Network connections in Ctrl panel >> Create a new connection >> connect to the internet >> setup my connection manually >> connect using broadband connection that requires username & password >> Put in the ISP name ie MTNL >> put in ur username and password >> add a shrtcut (will make it easy to find after setting up the connex.)Thats it...But be careful i have tried this on my router only after i have got the firmware upgraded...coz i crashed even my newly replaced router :PFYI, the bug-free firmware ver. No is V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530 The last 8 digits are the key and indicate the date of the firmware...read it backwards ie 30/05/2005 ...any prior date firmware is bound to have problems so dont try it before u upgrade :)

i just screwed my modem today morning and the factory reset button is also not working :(

Well it had to happen someday....i also screwed it today..and this was the second modem from MTNL...were u also trying out a PM??U can get it upgraded from the D-Link centre at c-51 B, 1st Floor, Kalkaji, Delhi. Its not such a big hassle after all...i just went there today. Take it and they will upgrade it in 2 mins..even if it has stopped responding completely without any lights on except power light.I can play with it to my hearts content now :P

yeah, trying the PM ;)anyhow, am going tomorrow to the exchange...the guy said he'd replace it...if not, then i'll go to the service center as u said...any idea if the MTNL guys have the modems with latest firmware???

I'd suggest going to the D-Link centre..why not eliminate the root of the problem itself..Delhi MTNL fellows still have the old firmware modems...so wat u'll get is another modem that'll screw itself eventually...the dlink ppl dont open it or anything..they just run some special software on it thru the ethernet port...so ur warranty n stuff is intact...nywayz its up to u.BTW that PM didnt work for me...keep me posted if it does in ur case ;)
