IMO, 'service' is an overrated word in India. Buying a car? Go for Maruti - they have lots of service stations. Getting an AC? Go for LG / Samsung - their service is good. Similarly, going for DTH? Opt for Tata Sky - they have good customer service. WTF. Why is it always assumed that things can only go WRONG? A service support is mostly required for solving issues. And if service is so important, it automatically boils down to the point that the product itself is crappy. Technology has come a long way today and trivial things don't trouble the customer as they would years back. What type of customer service would I expect from a DTH operator? "Hello, can you tell me how to change the channel?", or "The sound is very low. Is there a volume button somewhere?"

Come to think of it, none of these 'excellent customer service' are capable of providing any kind of service when it really matters. All they can provide is a moronic 'we will look into this' response.

I don't know why people buy product looking at service, product should be bought looking at reliability and performance , not on service. As they service may be good but the product may be bad leading to frequent service. As per my earlier comments i disagree with the statement that rain disruption in TS is more, i had dishtv and faced similar issue for years. These days they have come out with bigger better dish in which signal quality is better. For all the people facing signal issues, get the following things checked -1. Dish alignment2. LNB3. Cabling

Was in a cafe yesterday and they had Tata Sky on a LG LCD ... was very disappointed seeing its Quality .. even though there were no rains .. any black area on the screen had small grey dots .. something like what you get with the local cablewala on the last few channels .... I would say Big TV's quality on my 29 inch TV (not LCD) is much much better .. hope it stays like this .. fingures crossed .

So why did you move to TS from your cable guy then ?

TS sis defnitely more expensive isn't it.

It is more or less the same cost...I moved b'cos espnstart sports had blocked my cable wala...and from sources I understood that Tata Sky has good video quality.

Quality is alrite...but service is pathetic...Yesterday it started working auto matically so I could see the late night footbal match..So the customer care have no idea what the problem could be...

How much does TS cost per month or annual ?

My cable guy gives me a digital conenction for Rs.250/month or Rs.2500 annual. I dont get all channels but the bulk of them for the Rs.300/month are regional ones that i'm not interested in anyway.

those small gray dots or squares are visible because of incorrect picture calibration. if i raise the brightness setting on my wega to high, then those are even visible on this crt and i think will be visible on any dth since they all use video compression to varying degrees... these artifacts are the result of this compression which would be visible on dark areas if the brightness is set high.. however you shouldn't see these blocks on normally bright areas of the picture...
but a lower video bitrate would result in these blocks even on bright areas of the picture.

I believe TS are currently upgrading their packages and shifting the channels so the pixel issue should get sorted in some time.

It rained quite a lot today and ts dint go out for even a minute for me... mine is a 2 week old connection so i guess it depends somewhat on the age of the hardware and condition.
