I am a newbie and I recently took a new Airtel Fiber broadband connection.
The Airtel main router does not reach all rooms in our tiny house.
So, I am trying to re-use an old TP-Link WR840N (supports only 2.4GHz, and is enough for my use case).
Below are the sequence of steps I have done so far:
1) I opened the Airtel router management page 192.168.1.1, set the DHCP range to 192.168.2-200
2) Then reset the tplink router and connected to default its SSID and logged in to its management page
3) set a static IP on the tplink router with IP:192.168.1.201, and rebooted tplink router
4) surveyed the connections and selected the Airtel main router SSID and it prompts to set the same channel as the Airtel main router, so, selected it and entered the password
5) Set a new SSID of tplink router and a new password
6) disabled DHCP and rebooted tplink router
7) I can now login to the tplink router with the new SSID and new password
..until the channel changes on the Airtel main router.
Then I lose internet with the tplink router. (Most of the devices do switch to the Airtel main router but this has a patchy reception in one of my room.)
The only way to fix it seems to reset the tplink router and re-do all above steps, and it works till the channel changes again.
I directly called Airtel back-end support and asked to set the 2.4GHz from Auto to channel 1 ( & also 5GHz to channel 161/something). The guy on the call said that he did it and asked me to reboot the Airtel main router.
Its been a few days and it still shows as Auto in the Airtel router management page 192.168.1.1
I could call them again and ask them to do that for sure this time.
Please help!, if anyone familiar with such issue and if there's any other solution.
PS:
I only need a stable good connection for WFH. I do not play games, 4k streaming, hosting, etc.
I can follow networking steps but I did not fiddle much with the Airtel main router:
