right. i guess the best you can do is manually change the build and then wait for the official update. Galaxy nexus devices are unlocked so you can update to newer builds manually.the pricing is very good for the product you are getting and it should be no problem keeping it up to date even if it comes with the samsung's build.

I read the procedure on XDA and it seems little risky and even difficult for someone like me for whom this will be the first Android phone.

I read somewhere that the non yakju builds take about 2 more weeks for the firmware updates. If that's true then it's fine, but if the delay is really long then that will certainly disappoint me, especially when it's the question of major update of ICS -> JB.

I think the best I can do is to ask someone over here using a non yakju model that whether he got the update to JB or not? If yes, then I'll go for the non yakju builds because I guess for the next 8-10 months there probably won't be a major update coming and delays in minor updates will be fine.

So,
Anyone using a non yakju variant got JB or not?

well. even if there is though i am not sure of it... it would still be a better idea to switch to google's build.

I just read the entire process again to convert to yakju in detail and I see that it is not at all difficult, but indeed risky! What if something goes wrong by mistake!!

as long as the phone does not shut down during the process, it should not cause any problems. the phone would refuse builds that are not supported from what i know. signatures are signed and only the proper builds would be accepted by the phone :)

Let's consider the worst case - what if the phone shuts down during the process? What will happen to it, will it get 'bricked'? And how will I able to repair it?

most likely. and why would it shut down if you charge it enough considering the process takes 10-15 minutes? you can even do that while it is charging (connected to a power source).
