^not IIT's and most other Indian engg, med colleges, but univs in DU n abroad do give preferences to "wifdely-skilled" students.IIT's and med colleges are simply based on entrance exam results and more than 60% in boardsBTW, I'm amazed how a person could make a VanDeGraff in ONE DAY!!??!!:S

Trouble is, not many such collages (In India) give good salaries after B Tech. I was in REC Varangal couple months back and all companies in day 0,1 and 2 had packages of "at least" 8 lakh+ Not to talk about IIT D/K/B. Last year students got 23 lakh for Jobs in India and $100k for jobs in US. Which compares very well with even best of schools in US

hmmbut level, rather quality, of studies in IIT's is much low than what we have abroad.A friend of mine just returned from the Stanford summer school and the pics he showed me of the AI etc labs there have left me in awe. Even in a 100 years can't we have such good facilities. Yet, these days, engg graduates from India are getting pretty good packages from MNC's. In the end, success depends only on one factor- your skill, talent and intelligence. If you are capable, hardworking and skilled enough, college or degree doesn't matter. You'll succeed anywhere

Yaa IITs don't have labs and infrastructure comparable to schools in US. My experience is mainly with Comp Science where only infrastructure you need is a good prof, good libraries and net connection. As far as quality/level of students is concerned, I don't think IIT students are worse then most B.Tech schools on Earth. They compare pretty well with others in Wall Street / NASA.

Well, I really am not qualified to take a position on this topic cause I am still an about-17 yr old boy goin to school. Still, I'd rather prefer a "good" foreign study over an IIT.(OT: 500th post!! :yahoo::thumbsup:)

Best luck.. what does it take to get into US schools now a days?Do you get AID with decent SAT scores ?

Well, decent SAT scores do comprise a part of the admission eligibility. But, nowadays, the admission criteria pretty much extend to all of the foll- SAT ScoresSecondary/Senior Secondary Examination ResultsExtra Curricular ActivitiesTeacher RecommendationsAppln EssaysSocial Service
