Hello, For fast and stable connnection between the wireless modem-router & the Wireless on Laptop, should we leave the default setings for IP address & Gateway & DNS server (Get addresses automatically) or is it better to put in static values? If static values improves connectivity, what should these values be? Thanks & regards, Ravindra.

If you are using more than one computer/ auto assign is preferred.start/ run type cmd type ipconfig/allyou will get 192.168.1.x( x any number) ( not your IP but assigned by DHCP if selected ) subnet mask 255.255.255.0default gateway 192.168.1.1 ( mostly)Your BSNL IP is dynamic and changes everytime you connect & disconnect.I prefer Open DNS 208.67.220. 220 and 208.67. 222.222and auto assign IP address.Mine given below. presently on Airtel with IP 122.164.49.xxxEthernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 01-80-96-8D-Ar-xx ( edited by me ) Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, December 12, 2007 7:33:03 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, December 13, 2007 7:33:03

Congrats.Open the modem and make a copy of all the existing entries !!!
leave it alone. There is nothing more to adjust , at present.
Use it for a week or so, then post your problem if any.
Presume you have only one computer viz :laptop. and you are able to surf the internet.
In your computer : start run cmd type ipconfig/all
make a note of the entries.

Hello, Sometimes I get connected just like that....Sometimes, even my modem cannot connect to my laptop wirelessly or using ethernet. In short there is lack of consistancy between laptop, modem and internet connection. Any thoughts.... Thanks and regards, Ravindra.

When it worksSAVE for reference 1.Start/run type cmd type IPconfig/all2. Start/network/Lan/ status/properties etc. wireless network / status.3.Open the modem and copy all settings. for reference. 4. Check whether bitswap is selected. 5. Report DSl status to check SNR attenuation figures. to check TF line condition6. Ensure all telephones connected AFTER the splitter. .
