@dhyaneshwar94 The duty is 41% or so for personal import, not 78%.

It's a big drama to get things cleared with IEC if you don't have a GST certificate and AD code. Too much of compliance stuff, not worth for one off packages. The actual category wise duty for this item might be approx 18-28%, so it's not much of a saving. I'm pretty sure the eBay seller valued the item much less than actual. ;)

I have no idea what IEC is. I am ready to provide the transaction proof and pay 42.08 % (If seller undervalued product and if customs asks me for proof then I am f*ked then :p. As I didn't ask him to do that). But nothing more than that.

@MrGordon lol GST not needed if you are a proprietership firm.

I applied for IEC in the afternoon and got it by evening, completely online. And, if you have IEC, you can declare the shipment according to its category and then pay lesser taxes.

@dhyaneshwar94 I am very much aware of that and I have an IEC since 2020 or so. So yes, well aware of it and have used the IEC numerous times in the last few years.

However when it comes to actual usage of the IEC, its too much of a hassle for one off packages, saying from experience. All couriers in the last several months, tend to ask for an AD code which needs to be registered in the ICEGate portal for which you need a digital certificate. You get an AD code from the bank only if you have a current account and its mostly for businesses, and indirectly there is an ask for GST as well even though IEC specifically doesn't ask for a GST certificate. These are all indirect dependencies.

Anyway if you have an operating business, might make sense.

@MrGordon I emailed them KYC docs on 20 Jun. Called them yesterday, they told me that Customs have cleared package. I asked them when will they ship it to me then they told that after 3 days.

Tracking Id they gave me showing (Delhivery) "Order cancelled by merchant/shipper" status. I tried to call them several times they are rejecting my calls.

Courier involved in this:

Yanwen
Shiprocket
Digital Courier and Cargo (These guys asked for KYC and then gave me Delhivery tracking number and now not picking up call)
