What is the latest news on Sun HD? Keen to hear user experience!

they told me initially that they will be launching the hd services by June 1st.. someone from chennai office called me on may 2nd week to confirm the booking .. also told me that installation will be done directly by representative from sun (no local dealers?? :S ) .. also asked me if i've got an hdtv (even enquired abt the tv brand and model :O ).. then he read out the details published over here - Sun Direct HD .. he hanged up the phone..

and...... No info after that :wall:

saw that the packages have now been listed under 'Addon Purchase' section in Customer Selfcare..

HD South JUMPOP Pack Addon Yearly Renewal Rs. 3600.18
HD Tamil Addon Package Yearly Renewal Rs. 1200.36
HD Telugu Addon Package Yearly Renewal Rs. 1200.36

Hi friend...
I managed to get the system installed and i have been told i will be the second customer in Karnataka :cool2:
Well, currently they don't even have the movie channels. But they do have two HD channels and Tamil/Telgu songs are played respectively. But i don't want to neglect the fact that the quality is ausome, especially the audio, it's truely Dolby, 5.1  even though i am not a fan of these two laguages, i am happy and impressed to see the change in the indian TV industry. Well, not ignoring the time it took to reach here !!!

Dear if you are referring to the availability of HD channels in Indian region then this may be of some help:

Many HDTV channels available in Indian region... some are FTA aswell
Even SUN DIRECT has started airing a TEST HD (LUXE TV) channel it is FTA and is awesome.....currently i am watching the same...

Below is the list of HDTV (FTA) channels in C&KU band for Indian region for your reference:
MEASAT-3@91.5E
Voom HD @ 3752 – 13330 – V (DVB MPEG-4/HD)
National Geographic Channel HD @ 3769 – 14000 –V (DVB-S2-8PSK MPEG-4/HD)
ASIASAT-2@100.5E
National Geographic Channel HD @ 3840 –30000 –H (DVB-S2-8PSK MPEG-4/HD)
Luxe TV HD @ 4000 – 28125 –H (DVB MPEG-4/HD)
CHINASAT-6B@115.5E
CCTV Hi-Vision @ 4100 – 27500 – V (DVB MPEG-2/HD)
INTELSAT-904@60E
HD Media Promo @ 11042 – 7440 – V (DVB MPEG-4/HD)
INSAT-4B@93.5E
TEST HD (Luxe TV) @ 11668 – 9500 – V (DVB MPEG-4/HD)

You simply require a HDTV receiver / HD-Television for better resolution and 60cm dish & Universal LNB for KU-band reception along with RG-6 cable. And for C-band reception you need a bigger dish antenna.

I have hd receiver with me. are you still getting luxe test hd channel from sun? hd given tp data is still working?

The TP data is for C-band satellite and not for SUN.
SUN Direct doesn't have Luxe HD channel

Not bad. I would say beyond expectation and obviously it depends upon your expectation. It is definitely not upscaled. The receiver shows 1080i. I have a feeling that they are creating the copy from the master print. Because the songs are from different movies and they are not yet released in HD in the open market. I am using a 46" LCD and it looks pretty good on it.

One quick question... Does anybody use a third party receiver which is not supplied by any of the DTH service provider and manage to get all the channels?
I am looking this option to buy a MPEG4 HD receiver with PVR from the open market and use it with the SD HD sim card :o
