@sloj I talked to the LCO today and he suggested all the routine things (reset, firmware upgrade which has already been done) and then obviously the first thing he said was we might have to replace the ONU and get a new one. I suggested he check the patch cable too, to which he reluctantly agreed and so now we wait until he pays a visit.

@shashankb Yeah we have bought the current ONU, also aren't Huawei ones very hard to source? I couldn't find them on any reliable websites selling online. Are there any alternativse to Huawei from the existing ONU brands? Because I doubt whether our LCO would provide Huawei to us and he'd suggest those cheap Chinese ones again.

The disconnections today seem to have increased in frequency and also are occurring randomly. Even while loading pages. So all I have to do now is wait for the LCO to pay a visit and then I will update you guys soon after. Thank you once again

If ONU replacement is done with a new one, take it. Meanwhile, you can also try bridging PPPoE with a router if you have one lying around.

@shashankb yes I'd be interested in looking into them, I'll see what the LCO has to say first and then get back to them if the need arises to buy one

@sloj yes I do have a D-Link 2750U lying around but it doesn't have a wan port. I also read on this forum about flashing firmware to make the 4th lan port into a wan port but it seemed too tedious and decided I'd drop it for now, should I try it?

@Ajoezy Flashing ROM should be the last resort because anything can wrong sometimes . You will end up losing the modem or you have to get into Serial port and stuff to recover it

@Ajoezy I also have the same model which I was using for ADSL. Flashed the ME firmware and everything was working fine. It's very easy, simply flash the firmware and done. If you want to revert to the original IN firmware, simply flash it back. But before that make sure you have the correct supported hardware version.

You can use it as an Access Point if it has an option . Maybe that can solve your Wifi problem to certain extent .

@sloj Okay I will try it but have to be extra careful with mac lock and stuff because I am hesitant in approaching the bsnl folks and trying to explain everything. I'd rather bang my head against a wall than sit on a call talking to them

@shashankb a few days ago I did try something similar by connecting the lan cable to the ONU and the D-Link router but instead I think it ended up being just a range extender/repeater. But then the ftth was exceptionally shitty so the problems seemed to persist or magnify. Now after the recent repairs, the quality of network seems to have improved relatively so I guess I'll try doing that again and seeing what happens this time

Nothing MAC related here in my location and most other locations. Just try once. They won't lock you out for trying something which almost everyone else in this forum is doing.
