And why are we comparing NZ with India
Oranges and apples can't be compared this is ridiculously hilarious

I can buy a Voda connection on prepaid for 2 dollars in the south PAC and go international roaming with incoming SMS free
We can't do this in
India

Moral of the story - it's an incorrect comparison

Why are you complaining about "only" 100MB?

First of all, it's a free offer.

Secondly, even if they charged ~Rs100 for this, I'd be fine with paying it for 2 reasons:

[*]Firstly, Vodafone India was charging me about 10ps/10kbytes = Rs10/MB = Rs1000 for 100MB (on prepay, yes, I'm aware I could get a better deal on postpaid),
[*]Secondly, in NZ the LOWEST cost provider gives 50MB for $6 (about Rs180-185) or 1GB for $20 (if you live in the right city, used outside of these areas is $0.50 or Rs17/MB), while Vodafone NZ gives 100MB for $10 (about Rs340).
[/list]
Personally, I'm using about 100-150MB a month at the moment (using sparingly, that is, exclusively on my phone): but that usage still includes things like Google & Nokia Maps, emails & attachments, some OTA updates, quite a lot of web browsing (including downloading some PDFs), Twitter, Facebook and a lot of minutes of calling on Fring and/or Nimbuzz.

Granted, 100MB is not enough to tether to your laptop and start downloading torrents, but 3G is not designed/optimized for this type of usage anyway - even the Scandinavian networks which are notoriously quite good are blocking/restricting this type of activity, and if 3G is to work properly in India, I would personally recommend that the Indian operators do the same.

Frankly, I think you're being bloody ungrateful. I have many friends and contacts working in the company and as many issues as I might have with Tata as an organization, I congratulate Tata and the team on launching DoCoMo's 3G network, however limited the coverage area may be for the time being. I can only hope it lives up to the DoCoMo name as I have been fortunate enough to experience DoCoMo's network in Japan on several occasions since it was launched there in 2001.

yes it is not possible to give 21mbps , but docomo network is much better than bsnl3g one ,

on the price front , i think it should be on par with 2g or less than 2g , Data price i can not comment right know , it may be high or may be low

---------- Post added at 08:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 PM ----------

For now i m not agree with admin , that 3g service will be costlier , india is huge country , if they manage to survive they have keep price down , an otherwise , other operator are also ready to sing a song

-The point is not if we get 21Mbps, its rather about quality of service. Even if Tata 3G can give 3Mbps, its great.

BSNL 3G network, especially in south India seems to be much better. My highest speed yday on BSNL 3G was 3.2Mbps.

LOL the good thing is most of the ppl have not used either Docomo 3G/BSNL 3G using a proper HSDPA 7.2/10 Mbps USB Modem and HSUPA capable ones. I get more than 5 Mbps after 11 pm both with Tata Docomo as well as BSNL 3G ...dunno why u guys are complaining so much :P...btw I am the one who reviewed Tata Docomo 3G in both link-removed and Techenclave and I am in no way associated with Tata Docomo :PIf you want more speedtests for the proofs plz let me know. Of course I am into those very good coverage areas as I am live in close proximity to a tech-park in Bangalore :P

i saw ur speed test , good effort, anyway we are still waiting docomo high speed internet

Interesting to note that Tata is deploying a 21.1mbit/s network but no-one even has a device that will do more than 7.2mbit/s, and so most people will get 3.6mbit/s or less, while some with higher-end phones and USB sticks will get up to 7, but no-one is going to report 21... which will mean that people are gonna bitch about Tata not delivering on it's promises, despite it being their own hardware at fault. One can only hope they bring the 14.4 and 21.1mbit/s devices to India soon. Also interesting to note that Tata "plans to spend US$500m on 3G networks", whereas Vodafone NZ has claimed to me (in public) that they have spent over US$2bn covering this tiny nation. Either Tata is doing things extremely cheaply, of Vodafone NZ is giving me grossly inflated figures (which IMO is more likely, since the official value of their network per their public financial filings is about US$800m).

u are right mr NZ . soon HSPA+ usb doungle and handset flood the market , as per investment about docomo 3g network , they are right about 500Million dollar, because , there GSM network is already 3G ready, so i think they need just bts to start their service , all other back hull things like fiber optics and microwave has already up to date

{Venkat} 3G cellular technology will bring wireless broadband data services to your mobile phone.
You will be able to surf the internet with speeds ranging from 144Kbps (roughly three times faster than a 56K dial-up modem connection) to 2.4Mbps (close to cable-modem speed).
{jack} 2.4 ????
i heard its 21 Mbps
{jack} its less than usual 3g speed
{Venkat} Sir, it is higher than 2g
{jack} 3.1 Mbps is the min speed other providers r giving
{jack} so what ?
{Venkat} In Tata Docomo we are offering 144kbps to 2.4 mbps.

{Venkat} I can understand sir.

Tata Docomo is a useless company..IMHO. I can confirm that even though my city was listed for 3G launch, they have not been able to offer me a "free trial". There was no mention of 100 MB as the "limit" (not on their crappy web site) but I had a great time ripping them apart :) (Tata Docomo 3G: Failed start? « Broadband Blog). They haven't upgraded it as yet. The morons in customer care ( I think after vodafone, they get the prize), are still unable to provide any details on 3G. Worse still, if the usage limits are in force in "Free trial", I can well imagine what their expected rates are going to be. The only reason I took up Docomo here is because of it's relatively clutter free GPRS which is an acceptable alternative in case BSNL is down and at least all my mails are streamed in on my mobile.

Frankly, I think you're being bloody ungrateful. I have many friends and contacts working in the company and as many issues as I might have with Tata as an organization, I congratulate Tata and the team on launching DoCoMo's 3G network, however limited the coverage area may be for the time being.

I strongly disagree. Partly because they are a bunch of incompetent idiots ( I wonder who is reading this; this is my own personal opinion) or at least they would not have bothered with a botched up start...Worse still, with even worse "trial offers".

The organization ought to reflect competency and urgency of purpose. I can understand that nothing is perfect but at least the company should come out clean (and clearly) about the issues at hand and follow this up with a strong dedicated after sales efforts. Trust me, that by itself would help a lot.

None of the companies (and Tatas included) have their official email id's listed, no way to contact them for any complaint escalation, there seems to be no commitment to resolve issues at the earliest etc etc. Even if I am a prepaid customer, I am paying my hard earned money to avail the services. For the same reason, having a Twitter presence is of no use if Tatas cannot ensure proper services in time.

No one, in their right mind, would care to abuse anyone if their grievances were handled carefully, gently and with a commitment of purpose. You are setting up a company and all the "pre-sales"goodwill would vanish in thin air if the customer care representative doesn't care two hoots about any complaints being escalated. Interestingly, I found Airtel to be brilliant for after sales (as far as I was concerned) because there was a strong commitment from them. At least in my area.
