Hello everyone,I am planning to buy a Sony KLV-40V550A/B(Full HD, Bravia 3) LCD Tv with Tata Sky connection.I am concerned about the quality of tatasky video on a big 40'' television.I have read that the quality is a bit bad. how bad is it? Any work around to make it better. I dont want to spend more money on any additional hardware.Any thoughts? Please post pictures if any.Your help is much appreciated!!Thanks

one way is that u have to wait till the HDTV release in INDIA till that nothing can be done its my own experience:ashamed:

I have a much smaller LCD [32 "] and the picture quality is at best OK. I had much clearer picture on my 21" CRT earlier. I have no idea what can be done to improve the clarity as the CC told me the signal details I get are good

It is a situation like "left with no choice"
the reason being,
1) if you are about to buy a TV , you cant go fro CRT, as the production of CRT has been stopped, no more CRT now onwards!!!
2) There is no HDTV in india till the date, even if it will arrive some time later, a bit too later - almost 2 years-, it will burn a whole in your pocket at the launch time.
3) Well Quality is quite good. you can manage with it, but as and when you picture will expand itself from 4:3 (TELECASTING MODE) ratio to 16:9 (WIDE-SCREEN MODE) the picture quality may seem a bit lousy.

But the good news is : There are some channels which are something like HD-ready.
NEWS - X , Discovery and NGC, are telecasting programs with a black border at top and bottom. This black border is actually 16:9 programs converted for Indian TV (the virtual HD ready thing).

Well I will suggest you to get a demo of MPEG-4 based DTH also, as I found Airtel Digital and Big TV's quality better. (Just a suggestion)

Chao.

^^^so u think MPEG-4 has good pic.quality on HDTV:huh:

No I dont think so, but clearly the situation is this only
we have two, in fact three, DTH providers with us providing MPEG-2 DTH solutions
A) TATA-SKY : Running out of transponders and band width, cant add more channels.
b) DISH TV : The bandwidth allocated to some channels are a bit too low, you can watch motion-blur in some channels.
C) DD Direct : :wall: Sarkari company.

but at same bandwidth, MPEG-4 can provide a convincingly good picture.

For example : If you have ever seen a DVDRIP of a movie : 1.38 GB of XIVD/DIVX (MPEG-4) data is nearly equals the quality of 5 GB data of DVD video (MPEG-2).

Do some math, may be it will clear your concepts.

well..i watch tataksy on a 32 inch CRT and a 37 inch LCD..for me the quality is ok..some pixellation can be seen in fast moving images and sometimes randomly if one looks closely..but its the best one can get currently if the cablewallah proves to be a disasterHmm..MPEG 4 is actually inferior quality compared to MPEG 2..atleast thats how it appears to my eyes..though the codec promises greater quality at lesser bandwidth.. and it does deliver a part of that promise but the quality drops ever so slightly from MPEG 2..its one of those things viz. 128 Kbps mp3 is said to be CD quality but actually CD quality is far better than MP3's encoded at 128 Kbps

i know my cable is gonna suck on a 40'' tv....So i need a DTH for better quality....i belive Sony television upscale video to an extend. if that fixes the pixellation problem i would be happy... who knows all manufacturer give a hype about their products and the consumers suffer....
