He is hoping to get at least 50% of what he paid which was around 12K. 8K would be more than enough. He is annoyed with the low space for apps on the device and I have been trying to get him to 'upgrade' to Moto G lol.

Yeah.. The price boost & its not available in the market, may get him up to 8k. Otherwise it would have been lesser. Ofcourse, I am assuming the device is in very good condition.
There are few options for people who badly want to get good battery..

However, why not try rooting the phone and modding it to get more app space? If that's the major issue.

He is not exactly a tech head. And I am not going to do it for him because I have never done it myself (Except for using the CM Installer on my Galaxy Nexus).
