care to explain why every uncle of mine requires me to fix his windows xp machine every 15 days? now that's user friendliness.

its ok but gets works done, after all its its has thousands of programs for it ,so it can be buggy some times.

yes xp is best, and within few months the position will go to vista, after allbugs r fixed, and as more service packs r released then jump to vista, and hardware prices will also fall and yes dont forget widescreen lcd.

i think linux will be better than MS windows.its not like wasting money on crap vista.xp has problems every 15 days as Sushubh mentioned.i got windows XP and all the editions of Vista.they suck.i mean vista sucks.xp is better than vista.and i hope linux is better than xp.

ok... get on linux if your modem dials to the net automatically. that is if you are connecting to the net through ethernet.and use wubi initially to see if you really like linux. otherwise it could become a huge hassle.

To each his own. I have met people who have serious problems dealing even with Windows. They identify drives by label names and can't understand the concept of drives. So, the this-is-good-that-is-bad conversation will always end up in a blind alley.

Finally, it depends on what you do on your computer. If all you do is surf, listen to music and watch movies, Linux should do the trick. But if you do the above but also have to write Windows applications or do some other Windows-only activity, then Linux won't help too much (I hope it helps, though).

Read up a little on Linux, bhai, before you go ahead. Everything about it is different when compared to Windows. Take care while installing it.
