Righto. I am scared of the same thing. I do not want them to disconnect the connection itself :D

The issue isn't with disconnecting. When they bring your line back post disconnection, it ll be synced at 3999kbps. That's when the headache will start :D

well at this point of time downtime of a few hours would create havoc in my mind. i have been avoiding seeing the traffic graphs for the last couple of days. saw it last night. was not nice. :P
i was considering adding an additional line...
Please note, this application is just for the modem return. I am not applying for my broadband connection disconnection. I repeat, I do not want my connection to be touched. Please read this sentence again.

Like with all Govt org, get an acknowledgement in the copy of the letter and also ask if they will issue a letter stating that you have returned the modem.

Genuine Question
What do I do with BSNL modem? I can return it to the exchange to remove the 50 rupee charge they add to my bill as rental for the piece of crap. But the bigger question is... What happens if there are any issues with my line? Would the BSNL guys escape the blame by putting it all on the third party modem I am using? Should I keep it for backup sake?
My friend bought D-Link router coz BSNL cant give a replacement for their defective modem. They suggested my friend to buy(outright) modem either from them or from outside. He bought it at computer market and gave a letter to discontinue the rental charges Rs.50 and returned the defective modem along with it.
But the shocking news is that he was charged Rs.250 in the next bill for the change of modem. Coz of hectic schedule he didn't visited the exchange till now.
BEWARE OF IT. Make sure you dont get charged like that.

Already using TD-8817 from some time. rock solid, no disconnections or reboots till date. you bought yourself a winner :D

based on the name of the firmware, it was coded back in 2009! i wonder if i should do an upgrade
