Well, if you're talking about 1080p HD content, then maybe 250GB is not enough. But, otherwise 250GB is more than enough for all other requirements.

not really with games and applications getting bigger it may not be enough

PS3 games have already reached 50gb and will reach 66gb by the end of the year and this per game

you think that now in INDIA but when you get a 50mbps connection

you watch 1080P HD videos which consume 100mb per Minute with multiple videos streaming

plus your downloads and you trying to upload 24/7 on torrent websites to keep your ratio high

and using PS3 to download Large games, trailers

it can consume alot

I agree.

it can make alot of difference it the usage is going to be domestic

like if you take NETFLIX for example

they provide unlimited movies, shows, documentry, anime FULL HD 1080p which consumes 100mb per minute for just $8 per month through your internet connection

there is no way they can provide that as they will get ripped apart cause of the bandwidth usage and charges

so they partnered with NETWORK operators in US so that it can be done locally and so very cheap as they would just be transferring bandwidth through their own networks

thats also one of the reason they haven't started their streaming services in other countries as if they did

they will then have bandwidth charges for their operator and their consumers Worldwide

Netflix peers directly with ISPs... data transfer costs next to nothing. We would hope that most 1080p content being downloaded by our customers is coming from our servers, peers or mirrors.

Generally speaking we don't expect most people - even on 50Mbit/s+ plans - to exceed this, and if they do, not by terribly much.

Well yes, if you're downloading them, that's true. Have you thought about buying a game or hi-def recently and rewarding the coders and publishers for their work?

I worked out a couple of weeks ago that it would be marginally cheaper (and faster) to buy a 1TB hard drive, post it to someone in Scandinavia, have them fill it up, and send it back to you in India.

Make them buy it themselves. Removes one half of the shipping costs. That is what I actually do sometimes, though with friends in the US :D

I am on a Hathway 1 Mbps (Unlimited) Connection....
Last Month only i downloaded "194.3 GB" of content ... and of-course mostly the contents were HD.
though UpStream Sucks...

Fair enough. In that case it might be very well worth our while to see if Sony would let us have a distribution server in India.

I'm the same, but most of my DVD collection is sitting around rotting in the various countries I've lived in over the past few years. When I left Finland, I was carrying well over 10kg of DVDs (which I ended up giving to my friend to save weight).

Kudos. You're in the minority.

As if I give a damn about morals. These things may rest on one persons conscience, and it's not mine :D

But the amount of people who would want to take advantage of a good thing far outnumber those who don't.

SONY wouldn't let you as PS3 userbase is minor in INDIA.There are only 50,000 PS3's sold in INDIA till now

yeah people take advantages but it is not necessarily if the whole pirating thing stops, people will start to pay for stuff as most of the people who pirate don't have spare money and thats why they pirate

stopping piracy will only increase the sales by a minor amount

Maybe, but that works out to about 500mbit/s a month constant if those users download a game every 2 months. Which isn't cheap.

If we fit the requirements to host part of their CDN in India, and the need was there from customers like yourself, it would be worthwhile for both sides.

I don't disagree, and piracy isn't always wrong or bad, I'm not saying that it is. In some cases it is, dare I say, necessary.

But not everyone "pirates" because they can't afford it - I usually download or convert content out of sheer laziness, because I prefer to simply carry a hard drive rather than a bunch of discs - but then for the last few years I've been travelling over 1 lakh kilometers a year, and carrying discs everywhere I go would be hugely inconvenient - discs are heavy and bulky.

I'm the guy everyone gets behind in airport security because I pack relatively light, walk quickly and because I prepare my shoes, laptop, belt and coins well before I make it to the metal detectors... that way I can go and sit on my ass in the departure lounge for an extra 20 minutes :D

Ok, upon a little research, it looks like PSN uses Akamai and XboxLive uses Limelight.

Bharti peers with Limelight and we already peer with Akamai. We can probably try to peer with Limelight too.

Should be almost a non issue.

Their PSN service in INDIA is very bad and forget about hosting.I download most stuff from European and US PSN.

Most Indian user don't download anything from PSN.Most don't even follow games, they just buy systems because its a 'COOL' thing and buy whatever game they find in store and think it will be good

so Indian PSN won't get any better for the moment

you can buy digital downloads if you are to lazy to go out.atleast content providers get money.

atleast 90% of the consumer in INDIA atleast do it because it is to expensive and they think paying for it is a waste

Well we have an Akamai box in house anyway, so if someone downloads from PSN on our network, it will probably go through that.

Unless you're looking for something other than Top-40 or something that is somewhat obscure, that is. Some things I just can't find on iTunes store or Amazon or whatever.

Akamai's network in India is based in Bangalore. Akamai is the worldwide partner - that's kind of the point of partnering with a CDN, in fact that's what a CDN *is*.

I don't know how much bandwidth they have exactly but it's probably at least a 10GigE MPLS like most of the CDNs seem to have.
