Hi Im from Hyd, Im thinking of taking BSNL home UL conection...the speed "256kbps" is good but why nobody talk's about the upload speed, I wish to run a web server, i download a lotta torrents, i wish to use VNC, VoIP , though web-server will not be a problem on low upload speeds, but torrents, VNC, VoIP are ...I heard that for the 256kbps unlimited connection , the upload speed is 64kbps ..is that true? correct me if im wrong .. if its 64kbps then its not good for torrents,VNC and VoIP ...is there any difference between home UL plus and home UL it terms of upload speed? ..plz reply, waiting for comments...thankx in adnace.

Upload is generally half of download....as far as i know(i may not be accurate)for 256kbps upload is 128kbps approxor around 16 Kb/s approx

Hey Thanks for replying !if the uoload speed is half the download speed (256kbps) then it'll be fine ...but if its 1/4th of 256kbps then torrents, VNC, VoIP will not working properly right ?...anyone using unlimited plan and using torrents, VNC, VoIP ?

I use torrents myself. The thing is if you are lookin for great torrent uploads then forget about it on a crapy 256 kbps speed in India. First of broadband speeds in India ae so flickering that you will end up cursin the ISP for crappy promises and assurances. Though there are some ways to get your uploads up like You can set your torrent client for max uploads and max downloads. The more your desktop sucks the more it will broadcast. You can also open all you ports....but bear in mind this also opens your PC to more open virus and hacking threat. Anyhow even torrent masters around the world are always in search for upload volunteers...yet they always put the condition that the guy should be at least on a 1 Mbps broadband line.Everyone knows you can download religiously on "Kbps" but if you wanna upload religiously you need "Mbps"....which offcoures isint a possibility in India....yet.

Yeah upload speeds are crappy on BSNL. Even internationally ADSL upload speeds are half of download speeds dont know wat convention BSNL is following by providing 1/4th upload speedUpload speeds are important if u are using torrents, VoIP, video conferencing..but it has hardly been discussed on the forum. Users generally tend to focus on the download speeds of their plans without paying much attention to Upload speeds. I am on MTNL which beats even some foreign ISP when it comes to upload speeds i.e. it provides SDSL speeds upto the 512 Kbps plan ie i have two plans one @ 256K and another 512 K, in both plans upload speed is same as download speed. These days Uploads are very imp for torrents coz if u dont maintain a ratio of 1 or more u get banned..and doin it when ur UL is capped to 1/4th DL would be a real test of patience..

Hey Thnks for reviewsso vonage VoIP will not work perfecly well on bsnl's 256kbps unlimited plan right ?.....any home UL user using vonage VoIP ?, i also read abt tatabroand sdsl conection with same download/upload speed ..i was thiniking about taking 128kbps unlimited but confused between bsnl and tata ...just need to know how is vonage VoIP on home UL plan ?

If you are really interested in more uploads than downloads then BSNL is definately not for you.Change off ASAP if thats the case....but do remember, this is India and there is no way in hell that an ISP will keep his word about how awesome his service is.So be sure and do a wholesale survey before you go in and switch your services.

A single Voip conversation should not be a problem with Vonage on BSNL coz according to my knowledge it allows 3 codecs G.711, G.726 and G.729G.726 works @ 32 Kbits/secG.729 works @ 8 Kbit/secG.711 works @ 64 Kbit/secBut actual consumption for each of these is higher.. so u can use 729 and 726 if ur VoIP adapter supports them with the BSNL connection

Hey Thank you all ..its was really good information and i guess i'll go with bsnl unlimited.....well i dwnload a lot ..so i guess it'll be a happy downloading for me ..hehehe :)
