I just want root access to my S2, I dont want to use other ROM right now. Is it possible? If yes then how? I just want to disable some boot apps, enable avast firewall and install good backup software(which as I know require root access)

Some other queries are:

[*]
[*]Where can I download pure ICS ROM which I can load in?
[*]where can I download stock ICS ROM for S2(India)(in case I want to rollback(unroot) I may require this ROM)?
[*]
[/list]
@Jaymin: As you own S2 and I guess its rooted, so I need your kind advise specially about the pros/cons of rooting.

More queries will come... :)

So what next, should I download that? Is it same what is installed in my fone right now?

Yup. That should be it. That's the only Android 4.0.4 firmware that I found for India. If the ODIN part is clear, you may go ahead and root your phone.

rooted with this amazing .................tricky , legnhthy but amazing method

rooted my Galaxy s with 2.3.6 via this method to be clear:smiley-cool06:

afaik there's no rooted kernel for this rom.

you can try that, anyway.

1 - google for "odin" and download it on your pc. or take this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1464775
2 - similarly, install samsung kies (so you have samsung drivers)
3 - download semaphore_2.7.4_sc.tar kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1112908
4 - download original kernel from ramad's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1102881
4 - turn off your phone, that press power+volume_down+home until you enter download mode (yellow pic on screen)
5 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7). make sure kies is not running on your pc before running odin.
6 - connect your phone to pc via usb
7 - in odin select as "pda" the semaphore kernel. leave all options as defaults. execute it. this is done in a few seconds. this way you are rooting you phone (aka adding busybox) and installing superuser.apk
8 - unplug usb.
9 - let the phone reboot. then turn it off back again, and get once again in download mode (power+volume_down+home).
10 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7)
11- connect phone to pc via usb
12 - in odin select ramad's jvb kernel as "pda". execute.
13 - start phone, to be sure reinstall superuser from google play
14 - you're done, now you are rooted with original jvb kernel.

I do not know if this is a robust procedure, but it worked for my italian jw7 rom, hope it is ok for you too.

after gaining root privileges, you can remove semaphore.apk from /system/app with root explorer (download from google play)

no root kernel for this rom means for sgs 2.3.6

what to do now?????

clockwork recovery works too:imbored:

Well a factory reset using cwm could have fixed it. That's the reason i told you it's risky and to keep the stock rom tar ready :)
