I just want root access to my S2, I dont want to use other ROM right now. Is it possible? If yes then how? I just want to disable some boot apps, enable avast firewall and install good backup software(which as I know require root access)

Some other queries are:

[*]
[*]Where can I download pure ICS ROM which I can load in?
[*]where can I download stock ICS ROM for S2(India)(in case I want to rollback(unroot) I may require this ROM)?
[*]
[/list]
@Jaymin: As you own S2 and I guess its rooted, so I need your kind advise specially about the pros/cons of rooting.

More queries will come... :)

Well........ I still can't remove semaphore. Apk....... I have updated binary and I have tried 3 root explorers....... It just doesn't un installed :confused:Also I need to take a nandroid backup but I can't. When my phone was in a loop, I could go into to orange cwm recovery.................. Now I can only access blue color recovery which doesn't have any options to take back up:confused:

Can you tell me how exactly are you trying to remove that apk?

i am using root based explorers and then system/apps in which semaphore.apk is there and trying uninstal from there, but it doesnt uninstal

I think CWM is not properly installed

how to install properly now???

so I am trying to use Rom manager but every time I flash clockworkmod recovery and then reboot into recovery it isn’t installing correctly. I keep getting errors sayingE:failed to verify whole-file signatureE:signature verification failedInstallation abortedive tried multiple times and I keep getting the same thing.

got it..........the instructions i followed above had me removed cwm recovery as stock kernel was again installed back after rooting.now i again installed semaphore kernel and i have advanced cwm recovery :encouragement:now i am not sure how good is this semaphore kernel and recovery is ???? but i am able to take nandroid backup now.any suggestion for a better kernel????? androidfreak???

Now that you have CWM and Nandroid, you should really get rid of stock ROM and try Cyanogenmod. Start with Cyanogenmod 7. I guess Galaxy S is officially supported by Cyanogenmod.

You can download stable builds from here:

http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=galaxysmtd

Good that you have stable builds of Cyanogenmod 7.2 (gingerbread) as well as Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS). You can flash CM9 if you wish.
