I just want root access to my S2, I dont want to use other ROM right now. Is it possible? If yes then how? I just want to disable some boot apps, enable avast firewall and install good backup software(which as I know require root access)

Some other queries are:

[*]
[*]Where can I download pure ICS ROM which I can load in?
[*]where can I download stock ICS ROM for S2(India)(in case I want to rollback(unroot) I may require this ROM)?
[*]
[/list]
@Jaymin: As you own S2 and I guess its rooted, so I need your kind advise specially about the pros/cons of rooting.

More queries will come... :)

iCon.....

I am currently using this ROM -

[ROM][UHLPS] Pure ICS v7.6 & New AOSP Package [16-Jun-2012] - xda-developers

Pretty stable ROM, gives a good experience of ICS. Sometimes, just sometimes, the phone goes dumb when it is lying locked (never does it go dumb while i m using it!). So when i see it behave that way, i just go into the Download/Recovery mode & restart it.

It didnt originally have Wifi Direct, but there is an patch added for it. U can download that file as well & install it to get Wifi Direct too.

Page where the patch is available: [ROM][UHLPS] Pure ICS v7.6 & New AOSP Package [16-Jun-2012] - Page 94 - xda-developers

The steps i followed are:

1) Install the recovery tool i think i have CWM. Thats how i got root access.
2) Copy the ROM & Wifi Direct patch to the memory card.
3) Backup the stuff that i was sure of losing with a factory reset.
4) Go into recovery mode
5) Factory reset it. Wipe Cache et al
6) Install the ROM
7) Install the patch
8) Again factory reset & wipe cache
9) Restart phone

And the ROM is up & running. Seriously, a tool like Titanium comes in really really handy! All i do after installing a ROM is - download the tool, apply its key that i have purchased & go on to restore all the Apps & data in a batch. While that happens, i download the SMS backup file as well & start restoring the messages too.

Everything happens in an hours time, and after that time, it is as if i hadnt done anything to my phone!

Ok! If toocool bro's problem has been solved, then can I have my thread back! Thank You! :haha:

So @androidfreak:
1) Download Odin
2) Download Original Firmware from sam.mobile
3) Root and Install New ROM.

Is this steps are correct?

What If I want to continue with my current stock ROM but want root access?

And What if I want to unroot to claim warranty, how to do that?

Please elaborate more on this.

There is no need to root if you are installing stock ROMs using ODIN. Rooting is only need to install stuffs like CWM recovery, Titanium Backup and other apps which requires system level access. Follow the steps posted by Jaymin for installing custom ROMs.

Rooting and installing custom ROMs voids warranty. But you can always restore your stock ROM using ODIN which wipes out any trace of rooting etc and you can reclaim warranty. Don't forget to clean up your memory card too. But if your phone doesn't power on or is bricked, you may not be able to restore the stock ROM using ODIN.

Ok fine.. But what if I want to continue with current rom, I want only root access and dont want to install other rom, I want root access to block some apps to connect to internet and want to disable/remove some boot and stock application which I have no plan to use like samsung app, Google+ etc. I seriously dont want to try custom rom untill its as stable as stock rom.Titanium work without root access?

Titanium work without root access?

Try using Unlock root first to gain root access. I had posted the link some pages back in this thread. Keep your stock ROM handy in case something goes wrong resulting in bootloops/softbricks. Backup all your data first.

Titanium Backup requires root.

Ok, one last question, After only rooting will I be able to update to JB via kies?

i have rooted my note but still in stock rom , just wanted to use titanium backup .with titanium backup life is easy for using the apps and games , getting backed up as per schedule :) i still have the doubt which icon has raised

I don't know via Kies, but you certainly can update OTA if you are on Stock ROM.

I hope you have purchased the PRO key as it's a big pain restoring apps with the free version of TiBU. I cannot purchase the PRO key (no credit card) and so I know how tedious it is. ;)

Thank you each and everyone for valuable inputs, I will get back to you guys whenever I have a doubt. :)

@iCon......Surprised to see that you are not fed up of Stock ROM! Anyone using it for a few months is bound to be fed up!
