Thanks Jaymin for the info. I just modified / updated my post to reflect other information. Also, I don't plan to lose sleep over higher Dish dimensions since monsoon is coming to an end anyways, I don't have an option of a larger dish for HD (non DVR) and also because having used Tata Sky SD for 3 years I am sure whatever I get this time will be atleast one notch higher, if not two. Once I am satisfied with the service I will plan for an upgrade sometime next year.

About the thread, well on first thoughts, the idea looks good.
But on second thoughts, we have so many threads for a same topic......i started off in Feb. Then slowly as people started to buy it, we had a few more threads......and its continuing.

What that has done is - we dont exactly remember where a particular thing was posted. Just like its happening in case of the 100% signal for us. Everytime we have to think & search for that particular pic which showed 100% Quality.

Guys, I finally placed my order for Videocon D2H today afternoon. I have booked a Zapper box (non-DVR) since I was venturing into an unknown territory and hence, wanted the risks to be minimum. Also, I have decided not to go in for Annual Packs and instead, recharge PlatinumHD pack every month.

I have asked for the installation on Saturday, September 17, between 09:00 and 14:00 hours since my Tata Sky will last till September 16.

Total cost breakup is as follows:

2690/- Cost of HD STB and Installation Charges
less 400/- Cash back in account within 15 days
less 441/- One month Platinum HD pack free

So the effective cost for the hardware was 1849/-

The person whom I spoke to was quite knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my queries convincingly (that is my personal opinion and I have no reasons to question his credibility and ability till I experience something similar on those lines)

He also said that I need not worry about the Dish size since the Dish will come labelled as either HD or SD and hence, there is no chance of being misinformed / cheated.

He also said that the STB package will contain all the wires, i.e. HDMI, Component, etc.

There are no charges for a break in connection if you are on a vacation. The minimum period should be a month and the max period is 6 months.

Relocation Charges are 150/- to 200/- , though I would assume it's 200/- to be on the safer side.

I hope I covered everything as far as the pre-booking part is concerned.

I plan to start a separate thread of my own once my encounters with D2H begins.

Got the Customer ID SMS'd to my Registered Mobile Number today.

Got a call from an engineer that he wants to come and deliver the STB. I gave him the directions over the phone and he reached my place in an hour, around 14:00 hrs.
I thought that he just wanted to deliver it, but then he said he had come for installation. I told him that I have given a "Special Instruction" to install the connection on September 17. He called his coordinator and agreed about September 17. Also gave me his number as well as of his coordinator so that I can call one day in advance and book an Installation slot. I requested him to show me the Zapper box so that I can see what options are available and he promptly showed it to me. Yesterday, in one of the posts I had asked whether 2.1 Channel Audio is compatible with this STB, and yes, it is indeed compatible. I am relieved now since I don't have a Home Theatre system yet and rely on my Creative 2.1 Channel Speaker system. If this facility was not on STB then there was no other option other than to listen to the audio through the TV.

I somewhere had a hunch that the engineer will come for installation and not just to deliver the STB. So my wife and I had decided that we will try to convince him to install only on 17th, but if he insists and also if we feel that the installaton procedure will now become a formality, then we will go ahead and install it today. However, this was not the case as I requested him to install on 17th, he spoke to his coordinator and the matter was amicably sorted out.

An all round good experience, I must say.

Thats what i said that day to Ashish also. If u allow things to go on its own, everything gets completed within reasonable time frame.Btw, today i was travelling by train & had a Window seat......was surprised to notice that people living along the tracks had barely habitable huts, but they still had DTH connections.The height of it was when i saw an HD connection also along the tracks! It was D2h HD Zapper only - the dish had HD written, but was visibly smaller than the one i had got.

I guess, you were travelling around andheri- jogeshwari or King circle area. There I have seen lots of d2h dish all over shanties and even buildings.

it same like here but most of Dish tv dishes. I think area affects people thinking.

Now its common now a days that everybody has DTH & Mobile but special thing is that as you mention that they afford HD DHT even midle class man cant afford. Hut / low class people too spent on entertainment rather than raise their Lifestyle.

Ya correct. Yesterday only I went to borivili and saw d2h all around the slums going parallel to Railways. While travelling in WR, you will find d2h Antenna @ Mahim, Khar, Lots many between Andheri to kandivili. Between Khar and Andheri, you will find all dth operators be it RDTV, Dish TV , airtel and even one or two Sun direct too

I used to travel by train only bro. When I was deciding to buy dth, only dth-dth was in my mind. So when I travel daily by train, keep noticing these things and was fascinated to watch all dth Antennas and their penetration among buildings .
