These guys dont even have a HD Settop box. All they have a HD DVR. What if i dont want a DVR and a HD STB.

Avishek...

Is it have 2 Channels simultaneous recording facility like Tata Sky hd plus?

Yes. And i did that just yesterday.....but like all other DTH boxes, in this too, if u r recording 2 channels simultaneously, then u have to be on any 1 of those channels......u cant be on a 3rd channel then.

Is it have Auto Power Resume function?

Dont know, but i remember there's Auto Sleep & Auto Wake up timer.....is that what u r looking for??

Any function like Recording through Mobile software(present in ts hd plus)?

No. Theres only an app, which gives u the EPG on ur mobile. No recording.

True VoD(like ts hd plus)?

For Standard Def - yes....

a) 1 Free SVOD channel + 3 PPV SVOD channels - New Gold Pack
b) 1 Free SVOD channel + 3 PPV SVOD channels + Active Music Space + Music Space Hitz (Video music) - New Gold Sports.......
c) 3 Free SVOD channel + 3 PPV SVOD channels + Active Music Space + Music Space Hitz (Video music) - New Diamond Pack

And if u have HD inclusive pack, then u also get Active D2h Music & Movies HD - Free. 3-4 hours HD Video songs, followed by a fixed movie......it was Aisha till a few days back. Thats withdrawn currently. New movie shud b coming up shortly.

Btw, i didnt knew that there was an HD only box available too......thanks for sharing that info!!

@ Amit....
For HD viewing, its advisable to have a 32 inch or higher resolution TV......else, Standard Def is pretty much like HD on smaller screens. U will hardly notice the change in quality. Yeah, if u want the recording function, then u may go in for HD DVR. Still, HD wont be useful.

1 tip - If u want a "Recording only" box - there's Airtel which gives u that. But u have to be cautious of its CC.....a few of our fellow members have had to backlash them hard, to get them do normal routine tasks.....amish is one of them. U ask him for a fair review of Airtel - that is, if u really need Recording feature, without HD.

If u r recording something and power goes off then in case of TS hd DVR ,it will start recording again as soon as light is back.it is called auto power resume..is it present in d2h hd dvr???

& One more thing is it have series link recording facility? If I have series linked 10 shows and now I do not have to remember to record them is it does for me itself or not?& if my setbox is switched off frm mains in time of scheduled series recording(on the next original show timing) then will it record the missing episode whevever it repeat(bcs every show hv repeated telecast in the same day)???

thanks dth freak,
now one more question
I am having Sony 26 S550A LCD model, is this tv suitable for hd viewing i mean it will support d2h hd or not ?

Jaymin already gave u the answer...but I think u hv hd ready tv & u can enjoy good picture & sound with hd box.....I am using sony bravia 22 inch(bx300) LCD which is HD ready & soon i will purchase d2h 3D HD DVR as soon as it available in my area....
Go for hd dvr & u surely able to enjoy very good hd picture & much improved sd pictures also....

@Jaymin...

Is it(d2h hd dvr) have any hanging issue like TS HD PLUS?

Have never checked that. Btw, i can set a "Schedule" for a Weekdays show/Weekly show and like......so, i set a recording today, with a weekdays' schedule, then i dont have to think about that show ever, until & unless i format the Hard-drive.

Another thing i had noticed - even if i start recording a show midway, say in a 1hour show, if i start recording after 20 mins or so, then also it records full show. I have never experimented this feature with my regular shows though. Just that sometimes if i find something really interesting & i have started seeing it late, i put it to record. May be thats what u r looking for.

But i can surely say, it doesnt "Auto resume" recording on power switch off/on from mains. I had landed up in a situation, where their technician had come to check the signals at the time of a scheduled recording.

So, the power was turned off, both input wires were disconnected & he checked the signals in a meter, which took about 15 minutes. When reconnected everything, it didnt record that show again.

Is it(d2h hd dvr) have any hanging issue like TS HD PLUS?

I think the hanging issue with any STB is just a hype. If we use an STB patiently, it shudnt hang. Atleast this one doesnt, dont know about TS.....

Its HD+DVR, so its loaded with softwares & it has the load of ur recorded shows.......so it has to be used with some patience. At times, it hangs when my Dad uses it, coz he doesnt have the habit of using it with patience - habit of using Standard cable line, u know!! :)

Avishek, just an update for ur question - Yesterday only, i happened to record a show mid-way.....from 9:20. And sadly, it started recording from that point only. It didnt record the whole show.....:(I think they have forgotten to add that functionality in this firmware upgrade, coz i very well remember a few shows which i had recorded on 2-3 HD channels, which started recording from the beginning, even if i started it mid-way.

if u r watching a show... and then u press record button in midway (say 15min)... then it will record whole show. (because previous 15mins are already in its memory)but if u r NOT watching a show and start watching it midway and press record button then it will record only rest of the show because previous 15mins are gone in past and wont come back.

Ok.....i really didnt knew that. It is now fitting into place.....

The shows which were recorded midway, were actually recorded from the beginning in this way only.

What happened was - Travel XP is in general my favourite.....so i had switched off my TV with STB on, and airing the show in Background. Then, when i switched on the TV again, i felt like recording the show. That way it must have got recorded......

yep, that is where IPTV has advantage... in IPTV u can watch shows from past too.. because they are served from server. (IPTV works truely interactive and works on client-server model i.e. u can send instructions to server which is not possible in DTH)i waited 2-3 yrs for IPTV to function properly, finally gave up and took DTH.

until we get a few double digit MB/s speed, or a few GB/s speed, i dont see IPTV serving u the same quality of TV viewing that DTH offers us....or even Cable line offers us.Btw, i dont have idea about the bandwidth on IPTV lines - i have just passed a statement assuming that there wont be enough of it, just like on Internet.

IPTV can easily work on 4 to 6mbps line. And it does not require internet speed to be that high. Such speeds are just required till local server which serves the content.IPTV is digital TV....so quality wud be as good as DTH if not better.
