WELL wishful thinking i say..... but the isp's cud open up intra users acces without counting on the usage... call for a community driven effort!for recordss.... I use only torrents.. and have more of less lost fire to continue .. need to try few new options... or back to basics IRC!

so there's no way for a lazy guy...like me?? :P

are there alternatives??...ppl of BBF...hear me!! ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES????

hey guys, i just wanted to ask a general question whether anyone knows any p2p client that supports multi-networks ie.edonkey, gneutella 1 & 2 AND also it has a partial download system ie.it creates a partial file on the hard drive having a size exactly same as the amount which has already been downloaded, just like DC++. so it shudnt do a complete dump of the complete filesize onto the hard drive and then begin its download.so does anyone know a p2p client which provides BOTH the above mentioned features ie.multi-network and partial download support, all in one package??

Have you tried Shareaza ?
http://www.shareaza.com

Torrents have always kinda suckd 4 me....
Used to use Kazaa on dialup, then shifted to BearShare and now finally onn LimeWire PRO!!!
the speeds on limewire are awesome... Always get above 25KB/s (at nite that is)
But kinda resource hungry tho!!!
Also not all stuff u'l end up findin on LimeWire.... But did get Limewire PRO on limewire!!!
:D... Now me use a combo of
1. Limewire
2. Bearshare
3. Torrents

I've used kazaa, emule and limewire. I face a prob in emule that the download wud'nt start. the search results are displayed in a flash but when i click on any of the results to dlwd the file, the file goes in the transfers area but the dwld does'nt start . i was curious that does anyone here face the same prob, or is there any setting which must be done in emule to start the dwld (i'm currently using the default settings).

For smaller files, I use Shareaza (P2P) For files larger than 25-30 Mbs extending upto GBs, I use torrents (utorrent or Azureus). I like Shareaza because of the fact that it is open source, and it has a much better GUI than it's other famous counterparts like Limewire and Morpheus.Anyways, why is this topic in MTNL Broadband Forum? Shouldn't it be in everything else? And how is it alive when the last post was on Feb 6, 2006?

Azureus has always worked fine for me - only thing is it's a drag on resources. I tried uTorrent (reputed as the best) some time back and the app is well made and very light on system resources but it didn't give me the same speeds as Azureus. Occasionally it would just stop downloading even when it showed several seeds. Now a few months later I've installed uTorrent again and tweaked it accouding to this guide and it seems to have boosted its speed. Will retain both clients for now till I find out for sure which works best for me coz Azureus has always been something I've been able to rely on.

A noob question about port forwarding: I'm using a cable modem and from what I gather port-forwarding is only done for routers which in my case is sitting at some undisclosed location owned by my ISP, so I can't port-forward... correct?

just go to www.grc.com and chek if ur ports are open (no firewall shld be running on the computer)..If they are open no need for forwarding.

PS take the shieldsup test and test common ports
