Wi5 Wireless Broadband Plans : Zylog Systems India

yeap. at these prices they really cannot sustain for long... huge investments are needed to expand and maintain even wireless networks...

looking at all of these atleast i'll stay away from them for quiet sometime. wonder when railwire.in will expand their network to the whole of bangalore - for more than a year now they keep saying in 1-2 months they'll cover most of the places but still have not come a little beyond Whitefield in Bangalore :|

Hey am Ashwin from Chennai... A friend told me bout this ISP... Just want to let you all know a personal experience of mine... I am a user of Airtel... have been for 3 years now... I use a lot and am on 2222unlimited now... So the thought of paying 1750 for 4mbps unlimited excites me but before Airtel I was with Hathway for a couple of months...I signed up for their night unlimited 512Kbps plans and the sales person was assuring me of download speeds over 100kBs I know the max available shd be 64 ;-)...When I started using I found I got 300Kbps in the day and 20Kbps in the nights... U believe it FRICKKIN 20Kbps... NO I KNOW MY LANGUAGE AM NOT MIXIN UP Kbps and KBps... I got 20Kbps and a download rate of 2-3KBs... I had to call them 100 times(...literally) go to their office 10 times and then get a refund(that was Rs.1000 short of what I originally paid) after 3 months! So sometimes promising the world isn't everything... I see I have gone on quite a rant here, sorry guys but my bp still shoots up everytime I think of Hathway and the way they responded...I signed up just so I could let everyone know of what happened and ask you guys to wait for a while before signin up!Cheers!Ashwin

great post. let's hope not many customers are fooled by their marketing.

Thank You... Just so you all know... Hathway's wikipedia entry was editited by themselves saying that customers misunderstood Kbps and KBps and thats why complained and wierd stuff like that... I personally had to fight to get that removed... cuz once I edited they changed it back again!

Just got reminded of this because of the diff posts from the same ip for wi5... not accusin them but just be wary guys!

G'nite!
Ashwin

heh. well anyone who is stupid enough to believe them is not going to read about them on wikipedia. but it's a shame how easily wikipedia can still be manipulated for your own gain especially if you are a lesser known entity. that is why we try to highlight as much as we can about the broadband companies in india. :) we call a spade a spade. :P

hi all, looks like these plans might not sustain. Its just the initial hype to sign on more users.

Zylog is not an ISP really and they sublease the bandwidth from Tier-1 ISPs. they are a small scale IT services company with around 400 staff in some remote corner of chennai.

Naturally they cannot scale and maintain same prices over time by reselling a commodity cheaper than the source. Besides look at the other costs a smaller company has to incur to sustain and fight it out with the biggies.

also the spectrum they operate is an un-licensed free one. so really no guarantees over many things.

to me it looks like a totally unrelated line of business with no prior experience.

I called the Zylog fellows umpteen times. Finally someone answered, took down my phone and address, told me that they will send someone the very next day at 10:30AM. I waited and waited. Nobody showed up for a whole week. I called up again and complained. Someone showed up next day and said that they have no tower in my area, that if I allowed them to establish a tower on the rooftop of my house, I get free connectivity!

Shalini's statement that "like a totally unrelated line of business with no prior experience" is what these guys are.

I'm interested in Wi5's 1mbps plan since its so cheap, but when I read the fair usage policy they said that excessively downloading/uploading will cause them to terminate our connection...
I'm a heavy bittorrent user, and I will most likely go more than 75GB/month with a 1mbps...will that much be enough for them to terminate my connection?

And also how good is online gaming in Wi5, cause I had bad experiences with BSNL..best I've seen so far was Airtel's service in this aspect..
