i have simply stopped going to their forum. what i find are fanboys with very little criticism.

vb forums on the other hands are full of criticism with developers not giving a shit.

both the projects worry so much.

i want a software that is as refined as wordpress. funny enough you cannot get anything like wordpress in the forum market. bbpress is too basic.

Yes, I too find a lot of fan boys there.

A complete thread has been started where everything is criticizing about the upcoming vB5. U

ndoubtedly wordpress is best. I wish they would have full fledged forum software.

Alright. What does xda use ? I do remember seeing this forum on ipb. Did it say Invision Power Board or something like that back then ?

yeah. i think they used the full name back then. and xda i think uses vbulletin based on the forum format.

just checked. they do use vbulletin itself.

and i doubt they would switch to vb5 considering the mess that has been created. a lot of vb forums are still based on vb3 for the same reason. vb4 was a piece of shite. but not as bad as vb5.

exactly. they have/had a massively loyal userbase when vb3.x was the latest edition. they alienated a lot of fans with vb4. xenforo and ipb became solid alternatives back then. with vb5, they are doing an even better job of alienating whatever people are still sticking with them. vb3 is still considered one of the best forum apps to appear on the web. just that it is too outdated to be used today without major enhancements using third party add-ons and themes.vbulletin run vbulletin.org for mods and themes. and this site has remained on 3.x. it never was updated to 4.x! rock solid even today. a lot has changed for the company. they were acquired by internet brands few years ago. things started going bad after that. internet brands is mostly a content company. and one with a very bad reputation online. in fact they are currently facing a lawsuit from wikimedia for a wiki powered travel site that they had acquired. an open source project was acquired and turned into closed source potentially breaking the license in the process or something like that.

well i mean the layout and the formatting. i guess the amount of time i have spent on vbulletin forums mean that i find ipb annoying. i am just more used to how vb and even xenforo works. i never was really comfortable with ipb when i was running it myself. vb backend is a mess no doubt but i started taking this forum seriously only after it started showing improvements in search engine rankings and traffic. i am not sure how ipb based forums do on search engines. that remains the critical focal point of running this forum. vb+vbseo do extremely well. vb5 in its current form is awful.

Infact I found mybb much better in comparison to IPB. But the leader remains phpBB which endorses highest no. of forums.

well there are tons of forum softwares out there. the problem is that none of them are said to be suitable once your forum has grown big enough. phpbb is used by some big forums. i think mozilla forum are powered by them. at least the last time i checked. probably because they want an open source solution for their forum and phpbb is the most popular OS product in this segment of the market.phpbb reputation tanked when a series of updates were found to have major security related issues. tons of popular forums running phpbb were hacked during a short period of time because of these security vulnerabilities. no one takes phpbb seriously these days. and from what i remember using phpbb forum, they are very annoying to use.

Yup, now phpbb is less popular as mybb has more active developers. BUt from security point of view mybb too is vulnerable.
