It may be the other way around :
They already see enough interest for Mi3 for the initial stock in the first few weeks.
But, they want to clear the moto g stock where interest is declining (due to xiaomi)

may not be a right comparison.
Kindles(E-Ink) requires charging once a month on standard use. Not the case with phones.

BTW, Kindles do supply the USB cable and the USB power adapter.

From what I understand Kindle comes with just a USB cable. I have ordered it twice so I know

I was in Hong Kong last week and was looking to buy the Xiaomi MiPad. Its the only tablet which has the Nvidia K1 SoC. However, due to limited supply, it was selling for around 20% more than the MRP and people were still flocking to buy it.
