i do not think n5 is a bad phone for the price even today. it is still one of the best devices. yes, it costs a fortune considering the pricing has not really dropped since launch. but it is not going anywhere for 2-3 years easily :D
 
Yup, people are still buying it. In fact I know someone who bought it a few weeks back.

also, everything on my nexus 5 is custom, including ROM,kernel,DPI,color settings. I understand that xiomi would not have a big modding community, if there is one at all. but I think i'll have my 18k over the modding anyday

Chances of buying Xiaomi on 12th- almost inevitable...
Af far as modding is concerned...MIUI has a dedicated forum for that..
 
XDA has huge repo of Mi3 mods.

And yes, probably N5 is boring if the person using it is. It is not a phone to be given to someone who is not going to be doing any mods with it.
