How things have changed in the mobile market in the last one year.
When I bought my Note 3 for 43K, Nexus 5 for 35K was closest alternative I had.

K3 note almost same spec as Galaxy note 3.Plus it has 4g. I know the display may not be that great as note 3. But then, the price is just 10K.

yep... lenovo k3 note with 1080p display Rs 10K, Xiaomi Note 4G with 720p display Rs 8K. This price has to go down to keep selling/clear the stcoks for Note 4G

@chromaniac yours is RedmiNote_4G_SingleSIM phone.. THe above news is about RedmiNote_3G_DualSIM phone with MediaTek octa-core processor whose sale was stopped by Ericssion due to patent disputes. From then onwards xiaomi has to sell just Snapdragon equipped phones only and they lost their competitive edge from that day, imho...

Further my wife's RedmiNote_3G is running on age old JB (4.2) and this update (to kitKat) is really a welcome move.. Better late than never...

right. i think my version came with jb too. i taught the basics of that ui to mom. in a few hours the update arrived and i had to go through the ui once again with mom :D

Haha... Same here... At first, I have bought my mom a DualSIM non-touch phone. When she was feeling comfortable with it, I changed her phone to Galaxy Core Duos and when she was happy with ultra laggy TouchWiz and learned using Whatsapp, I changed her mobile to Redmi1S.. After few months, she was happy with slightly less laggy MIUI and enjoyed the occasional video chat with my sister on Viber, I changed her mobile to Lenovo A6000+. Now she is enjoying the fast UI and regularly watching Hotstar and / or Youtube + playing games with her grand-daughter, I will change her mobile to a phablet (may be Moto X play or equivalent) in near future..

Just Don't care about their initial complaints about frequent change of phones or non-familiar UI.. Moms will love to learn new things.. [But NOT so in the case of DAD (in my case).. He is still using Nokia DualSIM button phone]

Redmi Note 2 seems to be coming soon 16 Aug-2015 IIRC

I hope it would have Lollipop out of the box, else it would be a failure.

Redmi Note 3G stable Rom released recently is Kitkat based but users are reporting strange issues, and they seems to be
very slow on providing it updates, and I would not be surprised if they dump this handset (Redmi Note 3G dual sim) for future updates as device no longer sells.
