Now almost all DTH players provide video in MPEG-4, why doesnt DISH TV upgrade from Mpeg-2 to Mpeg-4? Now since they are charging extra i think this is the right time for them to upgrade to MPEG4

Not almost all. Tata Sky is still using Mpeg2. Tatasky has lesser number of subscirbers and they charge more than dish tv. But even they are not interested in changing to mpeg4. Offcourse Mpeg4 will help dish tv as they provide more channels.

but what is the benefit of mpeg4. because what i know about MPEG4 is that it is a compression technique which broadcasters can use to accomadate more channels on their transponders. then how come its beneficial for a normal customer like us. picture quality and audio quality is not effected in mpeg 2 and mpeg 4, its same in both the case.
