This Bank has started sending sms's to customers that they are changing the debit/ATM cards as the older ones don't have the chip. I was perplexed as this was already done few years ago & current cards still has a few years validity. After getting the new card today the cat is out of the bag. The previous (still valid card with chip) is a Visa card whereas the new one is Rupay. 😝

Probably for lower end cards. Surely they won't dare to upset their premium customers at this point of time.

🤣🤣 Nopes all are high end accounts & Client Service Relationship Manager is clueless so is the branch manager 😁. I checked with people in my colony (when this branch opened they had come to our colony hence lots of people have accounts there) all are getting new cards.

Yes because the government is literally forcing banks to use RuPay.

They also banned MasterCard and AmEx to issue new cards in India so we only have Visa, DinersClub and RuPay right now.

Rupay has its own pros and cons no mdr fees so sarkari gateway charge 0 extra charges and benefits of visa are more like lounges, bms offer of signature etc

Frankly for my usage Rupay is good enough but I don't understand why when existing cards with chip have validity of another 2-3 years they go thru all this expense? Another bank a few years ago when they pushed me to go in for a debit card, I filled a form for Visa but received a Rupay but with that Bank it didn't make a difference as I use it only as an ATM card😋
