@bhoj74

as far as i understand even bacteria has some kind of solid body and shape , its not a water molecule right ? so even bacteria when passes through RO membrane is stuck and stopped via RO membrane , so as far as i know UV is also just a fancy name and just adds to the mrp and mind satisfaction to pay those extra 2 grands ., i would love to know if if my perception is wrong about bacteria and UV filter :D

@Vinay , just as bhoj74 said , yes you can change spares on your own , and bhoj is an expert on this :D

however , the quality of plastic also matters in which your pure water will be stored everyday , that was the only reason i went for whirlpool , because as its a brand and as i understand and they themselves claim that they use food grade plastic , so i wont suggest any local type RO filter because i am not sure whether they use food grade plastic or not, generally only food grade plastic is safe for use incase of drinking water , any other plastic is dangerous and contaminates the PURE RO water itself ....................i didnt have budget but if i had it i would have gone for LG RO filters which has stainless steel water containers and cost is 20 k i beleive , so went for the best known thing.............food grade plastic

You can change the filters of any RO with standard spares, still I find the neo appealing because of easy service ability. The big guys just charge you for their brand names.

UV filter is required if you are concerned about bacteria in the water which leads to issues like stomach upsets etc. RO is a sediment filter and does not efficiently filters bacteria, mineral cartridge adds necessary healthy minerals since RO strips the water of all minerals.

Thanks for your reply. We've been using a RO purifier without a UV filter for the past 10 years and have rarely fallen sick due to water issues (probably have developed immunity by now). I'll pursue the Neo Purifier and post an update later.

whoa ............so you dont beleive that plastic other than food grade is dangerous and chemicals can and will seep into the water , because plastic is made of chemicals ?

good luck with neo then :/

Well Ro does filter bacteria too, but UV is more efficient at it. And if you go non branded a UV kit is 700 bucks only. :)

Agree on food grade plastic, but I think everyone today uses food grade plastic, maybe even neo. Your system is as good or bad depending on the quality of spares you buy.

Also I would have gone with neo today very happily after my understanding of Ro systems. I've used a branded product for 10 yrs , but at that time spares were not readily available.

trying some service center to install UV lamp in my whirlpool system ,i hope there is enough space inside , finger crossed .

and this "maybe" in case of food grade plastic is very dangerous , i visited the website and they dont have it mentioned there, why wouldnt they mention such an important thing, does it not even matter ? or they dont know it , or they dont use it ? ...............moreover its india dude , i wont even believe that they use it even if its written on their website , these system are damn cheap and i bet they dont use food grade plastic ...................just writing on a website wont do ,because writing by a small regional company doesnt matter , they write of even 17 stage model too , and its freaking hilarious ..............17 stage purification is insane ...................i would only believe on a very reputed brands website for a lot of things .

one thing about food grade plastic container is this that ................whatsoever you do with it after you buy it , you cannot ever change the container ...............so its not a matter of replaceable spares

and what about all other plastic parts/pipes of plastic in which water passes through for all of the ro system life ?

Some big brands does not confirm to the standards they advertise their products for, I've personal experiences with many MNCs. They feed on pro brand ambassadors like us. Having said that I'm not saying whirlpool is bad or neo is good, all I'm saying is both can be at par, we just need to open our eyes before we buy.

I remember food grade mentioned in some local brand, do not remember, it maybe aquafresh.

Aha, and BTW food grade plastic does not cost much or is no longer a USP of big brands. Take for example Tupperware, there r other good container brands these day too, just look for that food grade mark. Having said that, I love Tupperware for their build quality too and not only food grade.

The quality of the plastic used for the water container is a concern for me too but I think the containers used are all food grade plastics nowadays, it seems a basic requirement. Anyway, I was thinking of rigging something up so that the water is finally collected in a stainless steel or copper container.

I wasn't aware of the LG model, thanks for bringing it to my notice. But it doesn't seem to have a mineral filter at the output which for me is a requirement.

Exactly my thoughts, I think you can use a custom made metal container housed inside the plastic. The stop valve should work just fine with this arrangement. This comment goes with local filters most of which use a stop valve.
