haha. remains to be seen. it would be costly and we are unlikely to see unlimited plans for prices lower than what we pay for wireline broadband for sure.

common sense states that if they launch an unlimited plan for below 2-3K rupees per month, it would make sense for users to switch from their broadband connections to 3G enabled modems.

so essentially, 3G launch is going to be a major disappointment.

NOPE! That will never happen. They won't migrate ALL customers to 3G..that will be a burden on 3G spectrum then! And they won't won't waste 2G spectrum by keeping it idle..

atm no,bu i will happen for calls and data transfering.ATM call quality in india is low so that too will have to change after a few years.

plus in 3-4years time 4g spectrum could be done if india progresses at the same rate

well.. this is how things happened. BSNL told me to send some 3G-Activation-SMS. I send them. After 4-5 hours got a confirmation message. I restarted my phone(N73) to "Dual Mode" and I can see "3G". Whenever 3G signal is less it goes to "E" mode.

now can you tell what the download and upload speeds are and what plan are you on?

Yesterday I watched on Star News that 3G in India will give a download speed which will make you download a 5 MB song in 5 minutes. So I calculate the average download speed then 5 MB = 5* 1024 Kilo bytes = 5120 Kilo bytes in 5 minsSo 5120 (Kilo bytes)/300 seconds = 17.06 Kilo bytes per second. This is pathetic in my opinion. I have been told that I can be upto 100 Kilo bytes per second with 3G. Please tell me what you think, thanks...

the question in my mind... airtel won delhi but not haryana. but airtel consider delhi ncr as a single region. would they would allowed to offer 3G services in gurgaon?

haha you are trusting what star news tells you? 3G is capable of very fast speeds depending upon the technology used.

Mobile number portability

they have been talking about it from who knows when

how to know wether my handset supports vodafone spectrum in new delhi circle
Nokia 5800

it does

]It's sad Vodafone could not make it in Karnataka. so now waiting for MNP if the charges from other competitors are any better

VODAFONE will have 3G in KARNATKA if alot of people use 3G there. The spectrum only givs the company rights to it,other companies can license it from the winners.

do you think TATA,IDEA won't have 3G in MUMBAI AND DELHI,they didn't win but can buy it from the winners

Um... what? That is exactly the type of 3G spectrum that has been auctioned.

3G in the GSM world is the marketing name for UMTS, and 3G services can be anything with a transmission rate of 384kbit/s or more, though it's more likely that any new equipment the carriers are buying will support 14 Mbit/s.

The 5800 supports HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbit/s, while HSDPA (AKA 3.5G) can allow data transmission rates up to 14 Mbit/s.

All this is different to the various EV-DO networks in use by BSNL, MTS, Reliance and Tata for their respective service offerings at 3.1 Mbit/s using USB dongles, which are utilizing the competing and incompatible CDMA2000 standard.

And all THIS is why I've been saying that the 3G spectrum auction has been a complete farce and why it probably won't have much effect on the spread of broadband: the EV-DO stuff is already available and has been around for what... 18 months. Why will this be any better?

agreed but many operators now aren't providing more than 20gbs per month for Rs.3000,people don't buy it for this reason plus they don't provide good speeds.

Spectrum will allow that plus operators will start providing unlimited as lower prices.which will have an effect?

as if you already have a movable internet connected you won't need a home thing, you could use the same 3G at home.

3g (umts) = 384kbps3.5g (hsdpa) = 3.6 mbps to 7.2 mbpscurrently BSNL n MTNL 3G gsm networks are 3.5g at 3.6mbps speed

that would atleast be good for me as i will then get rid of my wireline connection cause no need for it when you can use 3G eveywhere.

PLUS new laptops have inbuilt 3G slot like ALIENWARE and a couple of high range laptops which will increasse in number

Great to herad that Airtel did not get the spectrum in Punjab , Anyway my opinion on 3G spectrum auction , Gov wins , we loose . due to high spectrum price the cost of broadband is high , so winning company use this spectrum for voice and sms , Video calling is useless

Loop lives as 80-90% of the people who got phones early on, took loop and are stuck because they dont want to change their mobile number.

I too have loop, their personalized service is also a bonus

I have been with loop for almost 14 years now... since the 16 rs. per minute days... I dread the day Loop shuts operations and I have to switch to airtel or god forbid vodafone :O... I wouldnt say I am stuck... I love BPLmobile :urock:...
