NEW DELHI: The Department of Telecom is hopeful that the defence ministry will release more spectrum for the 3G radio wave auction scheduled for
next month.
Now that we have got the Cabinet approval for laying an alternate dedicated network for the defence, we are hopeful that defence will release more spectrum, a DoT official said.

NEW DELHI: The much awaited auction of spectrum for 3G mobile services is likely to be delayed by more than a month and may commence from the first
week of March next year -- schedule for which is to be announced soon.
The auction process may start in last week of February or the first week of March, a senior government official said, adding the revised schedule is being worked out taking into account the outcome of last meeting of an Empowered Group of Ministers where defence ministry agreed to vacate spectrum.

a senior government official told.
"January 25 will be the last date for applications. Auctions would start around Feb 10-12," the official, who did not want to be named, said, adding that the new schedule should be released later in the day.

bidders of 3G spectrum, after the ministries of finance and telecommunications failed to agree on a timeline, said a government official.
Auctions of third generation spectrum, which have been delayed by close to two years, will be held next month. These airwaves will enable telecom companies to offer high-end services such as high-speed internet, video-conferencing, interactive gaming, mobile TV and high-speed downloads on mobile phones.
The government looks to raise between Rs 25,000 crore and Rs 35,000 crore in the current financial year from the auction of airwaves.
