with a mandatory capability of ADSL2 transceivers of 8 Mbit/s downstream and 800 Kbit/s upstream

Knowing our folk, they would have stuck to the bare minimum!

well admin has posted about ADSL 2 ie ITU std g.992.3/4 however most broadband service providers of today support ADSL 2+ (ie ITU G.992.5) or better including Airtel.. ADSL 2+ supports download speeds of 24 mbits down and upto 3.5 mbit up so technology is not a problem and they being "our folk have not stuck to the bare minimum." Infact most subscribers of Airtel and MTNL and even BSNL are synced thru ADSL 2+ only

So If airtel wants it and the subscriber is living close to exchange they can increase upload to near-about 3 mbps

PS pls do not use speedtest to test ur upload or download..its not accurate

^ What alternative do you suggest for upload test?

upload any file to an FTP server via a FTP client which can split uploads into many parts and monitor the upload with a bandwidth utility like DUmeter and see the amount of data uploaded in one minute

are there any free ftp servers? and most servers would probably have a limit on user uploads.try uploading a video file to youtube. it easily maxes out 1mbps from my place.

there should be ones that can max out 1 mbps..we need one only for test purposes for 1 -2 mins of upload only ..anyways even if u dont find any FTP server then u can run any FTP server software on ur PC and ask one ur friends to download from that..

I HAVE RECEIVED A CALL FROM AIRTEL BANGALORE AND OFFERED THAT BY PAYING ADDITIONAL Rs 100 ONLY MY PRESENT SPEED OF 1 MBPS UNLIMITED WILL BE CHANGED TO 2 MBPS UNLIMITED SCHEME. IT WILL BE ACTIVITATED WITHIN 5 WORKING DAYS. I AM WAITING FOR ACTIVATION

^ heh. Airtel Bangalore..means most probably kannad..will he be able to read devnagri script?
