When I received the same message from Airtel, I Googled about any regulatory changes which led to increase license fees for Airtel and found that its indeed true what Airtel is saying. But, since MTNL was providing the services without any tariff hikes, I went in for disconnection to which Airtel's response was that we are the first to initiate tariff hikes and others will follow soon. I was not impressed and pressed for disconnection. Thereafter, retention guy called me and guess what he offered me a plan in which I have to pay five months advance rental and the sixth month will be free. So in effect when I calculate, now my per month rent is less than even what I am paying before the tariff hike. But, there is no happy ending because when I received a confirmatory call the next day regarding my plan change request agreed with the retention guy, I was in for a shocker. This guy said that you have given a request to be transferred to a 'X' plan which was the plan I was already on. When I told him that, and the actual plan that the retention guy had provided me, he simply said, "ok sir, I will cancel this request" and kept the phone. The problem is, now I am back to square one. Also, these companies need to understand that there should be only one point of contact i. e. one same person between the customer and their representative this way they can ensure resolutions that are provided reach their logical conclusion. Now, I have again pressed for disconnection and this time I am not accepting any of their offers. I have received nearly a dozen calls from their retention team but I have refused all offers. Meanwhile, I have subscribed MTNL and its performing flawlessly.
