Airtel static IP + bridge mode issues

Hi, I recently decided to get a static IP from Airtel as I was under CG-NAT. Once they had configured it, I was no longer under CG-NAT, but the IP kept changing for me whenever there was a restart. Not sure why this is the case. I reported it back to the assigned engineer, but no updates from him so far. (Apparently, they email the NOC team to get things done). Has anyone experienced this before?

Moreover, I also asked them to enable bridge mode. They enabled it on Port 4, to which I could connect my Pi flashed with OpenWrt. I added the PPPoE settings and got a public WAN IP on OpenWrt as well. This IP differs from the one I have on my Airtel router. I'm unsure if this is how the bridge should work. There should ideally be a single public IP?

As a side-effect, I noticed my upload speeds dropped to nearly 0. I also tried it without the OpenWrt router, but I still got the same speeds. Downloads are fine; just the uploads are affected. Now I wonder if I should roll back to the previous setup :/

Edit: It seems like my pings have also increased (with and without the secondary router). And there's a very clear degradation in the overall network quality. This is even more visible with the OpenWrt router.

Airtel static IP works on IPoE, not PPPOE.
When you are moved to static IP, Your server gateway changes, hence the routing and pings.

Your PPPoE will still work. That will give you Public IP but that would change on every reconnection.
Once you receive your static IP you can configure your own router/PC with that IP if your ONT has bridge mode enabled.

BTW these are already answered a number of times here on the forum. I would advise searching the forum before creating your own thread.

Thanks! This is all I needed. I configured the router with the static IP, and everything returned to normal.

Interestingly, the speeds jumped to gigabit now

The PPPoE connection on the Airtel router is still as-is, with slow uploads. The settings are also locked there for some reason. I guess this might be for the VOIP service.

Nah, I am asking about which gateway were you assigned? Pune gateway? What is the IP of the gateway

And that is what I told you, it is of Mumbai. Not sharing it since it would reveal most of my public IP address.

Understandable, but the gateway IP doesn't really leak your IP, a lot of people are on the same gateway.

IP geolocation is approximate and can change frequently depending on how the ISP assigns it in a geo region.

My static IP shows Mumbai all the time while I am in Pune. Makes a difference? Nopes it doesn't, actually it makes me safer as far as location is concerned as IP look ups can make people believe I am in a different city.
