Dear All,

I am located in South Delhi, Lajpat Nagar and I recently got upgraded to Airtel Xstream Fiber 300Mbps plan with unlimited download top up.

Since day 1 I have been getting speed issues where during the day speed fluctuates between 60 - 170 Mbps on WiFi and I have seen 300 Mbps only twice and that too at like 6AM in the morning. Yes I am using the 5GHz WiFi option and this connection is through Airtel directly and NO local cable operator involved.

When I spoke to the guy who did the installation he claimed that this is how Airtel Fiber is and even if I pay for 1Gbps this is the best I would get which is total nonsense.

Anyways I have spoken to customer care and they raised a ticket and closed it on their own without doing anything.

Now after discussion with the area manager he is willing to change my router to the Nokia device (earlier it was Huawei) to check if it’s the router has problems.

Can you guys please advise/suggest what should I be doing to sort out these speed issues. I have been checking speed on all sorts of latest devices at home including iPad Pro, iPhone pro MacBook etc. all of them show maximum 170 Mbps however upload is always above 300Mbps.

Really sick and tired of this pathetic service and I’m on the verge of disconnecting it, would really appreciate some help. Thanks

I would say deal with the 100Mbps on wifi for now, its still fine for pretty much everything lol

Doing the IPerf test on LAN lets you know if the router is having trouble with routing between WAN to WLAN or whether its a problem with WiFi on the router itself (or something like interference).

@JB700 I'm running 4 x 4K android tv’s on this WiFi plus other things. Will a 100Mbps connection be enough?

we Only use streaming Apps on our TV’s...got rid of cable...so need a strong connection...

But I am running (4) 4K TV’s also using VPN for US and European streaming apps.

anyway, thinking about either changing ISP to ACT Fibernet or for now downgrading my plan to 200Mbps, do you think that would reduce the speed further and push it below 100...just wondering cause if a 300Mbps connection is giving 140Mbps at my place so a 200 Mbps would give roughly 70...lol

not happy at all :(

@PawanKumar Airtel guys were at my place for 5 hours today again...ONT has been replaced day before to the Nokia one and speeds have reduced further plus the range is also real bad in the other rooms as compared to Huawei so apart from speed now range issues have come up.

these guys had a another router which they used in bridge mode speed was still the same.

these guys took my ONT and using a power bank connected it directly to the junction box outside to see if that makes a difference....still the same speed....lol

@mohit11 just to be sure, did you check wifi speed with anything other than your Apple devices? I've seen my iPad pro being slower on 5GHz wifi than some other devices. I don't run into this issue regularly as I only have a 100 mbps connection

@mohit11 damn! the last thing you can do is borrow a wifi router from some friend to see if wifi works fine that way. cuz lan is giving you full speeds, so problem is with wifi. if that solves it, buy a new wifi router lol
