Airtel Xstream Static IP Rental increased to Rs. 299+GST

Do we get improved speeds over the actual plan . Is it worth spending the 199+gst ?

They have started charging me Rs 99 + GST for the past few months. If it is revised again to Rs 199 I am cancelling it and going back to DHCP.

Hey chip, is it possible to get ipv6 when you opt for airtel's static ip? like by creating an additional wan profile? I just need to open port 80 and 443 on IPv4 while also having IPv6 connectivity.

@demifiend9 bro too many doubts about where v6 is available and where it isn't. In fact it is so patchy that some areas of my city have it and some dont. That said, even if it is available, I am not very sure if you can get a v6 when you have been assigned a v4. Most static IPv6 assignments have the first 64 bits assigned while the remaining 64 are automatically calculated by the CPE/router based on the interface MAC address. In fact sometimes interfaces have multiple IPv6 address including a temp, a "fixed" and a link local (starts with "fe80"). I am really not sure if you will get a full static 128 bit v6 assignment. It's best to call Airtel for availability and further clarifications since this is all based from my experience with Tata Play Fibre.

@MadAxe well, not sure why they did it but I am not complaining. :) I'll stick with static as long as the old pricing lasts.

@rvk3 no, no change in speeds noticed. However static IP does not have the overheads of a PPPoE connection for a CPE/router. It may or many not translate into better speeds but that is mostly due to routing.

I was talking about the normal dynamic ipv6 /64 prefix that gets assigned to many airtel users now. Since my I have Huawei ont, I'm able to create multiple wan profiles. Was wondering if you could still get the normal pppoe ipv6 with a custom wan profile, while availing static ipv4.

@demifiend9 well, if the router allows you to change settings you could create one new profile (try DHCPv6 /64 first) and if that does not work then check with PPPoEv6.

That's just pure one damn luck, now don't brag. It hurts.
Regardless, are you sure, did you check your account properly? Was it a prepaid account?
