Airtel's 512kbps Unlimited Plan

definately he needs some tweeking ,I always get avg 32 -34 KBps using Internet download manager (IDM) ,even without D/l manager it stays at 28 kBps ,most p2p 28 to 32 kBps,Dc++ some how manages 280 kbps, avg speed (i dont know how),i am not talking of LAN sharing.Day and night no variation.

I am not a tweeking expert myself but just used some programmes like Tune up utilities,or better go to dslreports.com they have And some good onlie tools to test settings a forum dedicated to that.

blr_p, what OS do you use and what downloads do you do?there was a post here (and also search the web) about "max half-open" TCP connections which is limited by WinXP SP2 due to denial-of-service attacks... but this limits BT etc also...search on start.com also, i also get below my expected speeds if i only have 2-3 downloads but if I do more (say, 5-10) downloads then the speed is utilised fully (better) so I get closer to my max (but im on BSNL Home 1800 hehe)it couldnt hurt to also call your ISP to have them check your phone line for noise/interference etc...

Absolutely no change here with 256K, think it's a fluke what Wizard got.

Nope, it's no fluke. I am getting it too, though the speed is not as constant as I would like it to be..... What really is the question is whether this is some kind of testing for the rumoured 512kbps unlimited, or some kind of mistake on their side, or maybe something else.....

Vebmental, i'm still getting 50 plus constant.........maybe they are still testing, only in gurgaon and delhi. lemme know if the speed stabalises ;)

well i get 25K on pure downloads. on browing i hardly touch 15K. and 2x256 means 2 lines of 256. we have not fused them together. we are a bunch of people living together. so the bandwidth is often shared between 4 guys.

You cant "fuse" them together either. TCP/IP wont allow that. Anyway, do you guys get a collective bandwidth of 256Kbps on each line? Or only 128Kbps. If you are getting 16KBps and the bandwidth is shared amongst 4 people then you are getting the bandwidth appropriately. I repeat my question - "Is there a problem from Airtel's side"??

OS is win2k and most downloads are ftp via ssh. Or other times via secure FTP over SSL. I notice web downlaods are faster, but if its a big file the speed drops after a bit.

I have to say that the avg speed is better during the night than the day, in the sense it stays higher.

I want to see if there is anything i can do on my side before making them check the line. I never lose a connection it's just that the average speed seems slightly slower than what ppl are saying here.

If most of Your D/Ls are through Ftps then must try IDM ,its the best download manager out here ,you will definately see the difference it makes. If you wanr i can PM U the link.It also has additional benefits like ,resume d/ls through megaloads, supported by rapidsgare free account .
