Thank you all ! I found the option for selecting HD resolution in STB. It is much better now..

so it was the problem from STB as i told you?

One stupid question : Is there any scan converter available, which can convert from 1080i to 720p ?

1080i is actually an upscale image of lower resolution like 720p so yes you could find a descaler but still if the STB or your tuner itself is doing this then its a Hardware prob

I talked to Tata Sky customer care and I have been told they provide only 1080i, no support for 720p. My TV tuner card also don't give an option to down sampling to 720p.

those TATA guys aren't technical, even the teachnical guys don't know anything much in india

I changed the HD resolution from 1080i to 720p in STB.It was under Organizer > System settings > Installation settings > HD settings > HD resolution settings (for Tata Sky)

there should be no problem with that

also there is no need to get a full HD screen as no company provides 1080p TV signal

What do you mean ? Can you explain more.......??

It simply means most HD TV channels don't provide True HD service, True HD essentially means 1080p - means @ resolution 1920x1080. But instead they broadcast @ 1080i or 720p and hence a HD Ready TV should be enough to make complete use of these channels reception.
1080i is explained here: 1080i - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1080i is true HD, whereas 720p is HD ready. So 1080i picture should be better than 720p.More horizontal lines in a big screen tv will definitely give a better picture.

1080i isn't true HD,its 1080p

channels in india and mostly anywhere in the world provide max of 720p or 1080i not 1080p so you don't need a 1080p TV to view the full clarity

and there should be no problem watching it on a monitor

For broadcasting hd content standard is 1080i they can't broadcast using 1080p .1080p is for transmission between hd player and the lcd

they can broadcast 1080p but it takes alot more bandwidth

you know that 1080p is better resolution than 1080i,right?

so if 1080p is not broadcasted then how can you bring it upto 1080p quality.you can go to 1080i from 1080p as its lower quality

india HD services broadcast only 720p and use it as 720p,or upscale to 1080i or descale to 480p

Both the wiki reference and the airtel info information given in earlier messages classify 1080i as true HD and 720p as HD ready.

you should not believe AIRTEL or any Indian companies really

and TRUE HD is 1080p

1080i is 720p with black pixels making it 1080i

do you even know what 'i' in 1080p mean?
