Broadband Surprises with Airtel (Free upgrades for everyone)

Airtel said all its broadband customers will get a minimum speed of 2 Mbps while the upper limit is 16 Mbps.

this PTI piece was picked by all papers

I'm pretty far away from the DSLAM as it is, the Airtel Engineers were anyways having a fit giving me 8mbit (I sync with the dslam at 12mbit) so I dont think its feasible to push to the 16mbit plan any which way (although id love the 200gb fup)

Ive emailed 121, lets see what transpires

Airtel has feasibility study done for my new connection request. They are offering a 2mbps connection :banghead: on a "upto 16mbps" plan.

Should I push them to test a higher speed just to see if it works? What are the problems if line speed/line profile is set to higher bandwidth than the line can actually handle?

Can you please translate 'poor connectivity' into more technical terms?
Such as SNR Margin, Line Attenuation, connection drop etc.

Poor SNR due to high sync rate. High attenuation in all likelihood. Loss of sync with DSLAM.

If you're really keen, push for 4mbps and see the stats.

Finally, after 1 week of applying online, line is installed. Bandwidth of 2mbps is provided according to feasibility study.
Ping: 24ms
Download speed: 2.42mbps
Upload speed: 0.42mbps

Here are the line stats...

SNR Margin (0.1dB): Downstream 253, Upstream 296

Attenuation (0.1dB): Downstream 280, Upstream 195

Output Power (dBm): Downstream 18.5, Upstream 12.0

Attainable Rate (Kbps): Downstream 19220, Upstream 1245

Rate (Kbps): Downstream 6015, Upstream 511

D (interleave depth): Downstream 64, Upstream 4

Delay (msec): Downstream 4.75, Upstream 7.89
HEC Errors: Downstream 6, Upstream 0

OCD Errors: Downstream 0, Upstream 0

LCD Errors: Downstream 0, Upstream 0

CRC Errors: Downstream 2, Upstream 0

FEC Errors: Downstream 1642, Upstream 23

Total ES: Downstream 2, Upstream 1

Total Frames: Downstream 36026957, Upstream 9755481

Airtel exchange is around 1~1.4 Km far.

I believe that I should push for higher speed of 4 or 8mbps? Suggestions!!

Yes. Go for 4. Monitor line and proceed accordingly.

It is also possible that local DSLAM is running at capacity, hence the 2 Mbps limit.

lol no one called me when i booked online. called the local sales no fron pamphlet from pole and he was at my house in one hour.
which modem they have given u?
