i can only imagine that he called that sameer dude who i talked to on saturday. i had told him that i would call him back on monday. i did not because he did not seem much interested in talking to me. the exchange guy also said that i should have told him that he gave me his number regarding my complaint. he then said that he would call sameer himself and see if he can do anything about it. looks like sameer guy is not as fussy about these small things. i just hope that this is not a temporary setting change for their dude to come to my place and show me a speed test and then set it back later on :D

if this stays like this i am going to take kaaju kee barfi to the exchange day after tomorrow.

Think on a different angle :disdain:. Maybe they've bumped the speed up so that when their guy turns up, he can show you good speed, and later on they'll revert it back to normal.

i did mention it. :)

would not work of course. i have screenshots of the changed modem settings.

Oops! Didn't read that . So we all have the same thinking for BSNL.

actually this makes more sense for private operators. government babus do not have anything to worry about. it's not like they lose anything if i win.

got a call from the same dude who i met one hour ago. check speed now. told him that whatever he did worked and all is well know. he asked me what speeds i am getting. tricky question. told him 3.8-4mbps. i hope he does not temper with the settings again. :shut-mouth:still planning to take a barfi ka dabba to the exchange if this remains like this. i can now seriously think about saying bubbye to airtel.

the guy said 3999 is fine for a 4mbps connection.
No, it's not fine. Like manu1991 said, there's overhead.

said it does not affect the speed of the connection.
Lie. Speed can be regulated/limited at DSLAM port and BRAS interface. There are two things at play here:
1) DSLAM port profile => connection profile => affects sync rate => affects dl/up rate
2) BRAS profile => speed profile => affects overall rate => affects dl/up rate

he said he cannot do that because that is for 8mbps connection.
Nope, it's not. Even BSNL customers with 750ULD/512kbps have 8mbps connection profile.

then he used the excuse that 4mbps is only guaranteed from bsnl ftp servers.
What has transfer protocol got to do with it? Private ftp, less congestion? That's a lame excuse.

he said he would send a guy to check it at my end because it has password etc.

so the dude would come to my place at around 5pm to show me speeds from their local ftp servers. ****ing piece of shit.

5pm lol, he's bluffing. They get busy packing up for the day at 4:30pm.

and my line speeds are now set at 8mbps. he flatly refused to do it for me.

Nice. Upstream bw has also increased to 997kbps. SNR margins have taken a small hit but that's an effect of line rate increase. No issues there, 27.1/15.1 are good enough for maintaining a steady connection.

this is sheer sorcery.

No sorcery. The values speak. :victorious:

speed hover between 350-550.
acceptable :devilish:

actually the guy who came to my place to install the modem came at around 5:30 or 6pm. that was a surprise in itself. the wiring guys also came at around 4-5pm. but then tomorrow is dussehra so that might have worked in favor for me!

you know the worst excuse he came up with during my conversation at the exchange? what is the problem with 3/3.2mbps speeds? do you run any app that does not work fine at 3.2 and for which you need 4mbps. baffling.
