@ailurophobic Congrats. Your screen shot/s does not give any info HOW you did it with the old modem. You need not change DNS every day. have a GOOD DAY.

I also have the same problem i am also not very good in this and cant understand most of what you are saying can you give step by step guide to make it work the problem is whenever i try to host a server in counter strike my friends cant see it and my modem is the same ut300r2u and there is no option for port forwarding it. my ip is shown as 192.168.1.2 but is different in whatismyipaddress.com thanks in advance

Ok here goes...

Before attempting any of this create a backup of your current settings from your router homepage 192.168.1.1.

Step 1 : http://i28.tinypic.com/292xi6g.jpg

Step 2 : http://i29.tinypic.com/2ryr6aa.jpg

Step 3 : http://i32.tinypic.com/2ez67wl.jpg

Step 4 : http://i31.tinypic.com/33moldg.jpg

Step 5 : http://i32.tinypic.com/2s77tpz.jpg

Wait till the router has rebooted.
After this double-click on the lan icon in the taskbar...click on properties.
Select Internet Protocol from there and click on properties.
Click "Use the following ip address" and enter the following information.

Ip address - 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Default gateway - 192.168.1.1

For the DNS server refer to this link

Now for the next part...Go to Control panel > Network Connections and create a new connection.

Step 6 : http://i27.tinypic.com/x6cxvm.jpg

Step 7 : http://i27.tinypic.com/2ihv1iv.jpg

Step 8 : http://i27.tinypic.com/vzfrc8.jpg

Step 9 : http://i26.tinypic.com/2n6x7wo.jpg

Step 10 : http://i29.tinypic.com/crm9u.jpg

You're all set...you'll need to connect using this connection everytime.

i think it is safe it worked fine for me. you rock ailurophobic thanks a lot. One more thing i used the OpenDns address is it ok? do i have to change it?Once again thanks

No...any dns should work...enjoy

Thanx man...thanx a lot but is there any harm in doing this (any) ..or is it safe..

Dont worry it is perfectly safe...my ports are open.

Thanx thanxThanx thanxThanx thanxThanx thanxThanx thanx Tell me onething...will this get me a static IP ??????......then i cant dwnld link-removed files...........

I don't think this gives you a static ip...i haven't tried it though...you could always alternate between this connection and "always on" when you need to download from link-removed...I need to know something...do you get up at 2 and restart the modem/router??? I usually put on the modem at 12 and schedule the download at 2.15 or some thing...is it OK???Do you need to restart the modem shortly after 2?
