BSNL Broadband Routing Issue [High Latency + Low Speeds]

^^ thats kind of the standard message they've been giving people for the last 2+ months when people call up. "Sir this is a problem throughout this area, we've recieved lots of complaints, it will be resolved within 10 days".The more sugary version: "Sir this is a problem throughout this area, some upgrades are in progress, the problem will be resolved within a week". If you call somewhere around the first of the month, replace "within x days", with resolved by the 1st.

I had sent written complaints about it to the Nodal Officer, to the GM (Broadband, who is also the appellate auth) and to the DGM (Network OP) and they didn't even bother to call me back inquiring about the issue. I recently lodged a complaint with the National Public grievance portal which, as per the status, has been fwd to the CGM of Calcutta Telephones, but still - nothing. So I feel they are already aware of it issue but don't know what to do or doesn't have the funds to meet the remedial expenses (like better routing, equipment etc).

No luck so far. Like others commented before me, BSNL acknowledges issue but is unable to find a fix. Took my modem to nearest BSNL exchange. They hooked it up to their lines and dialled in using my account. Speed test revealed pathetic speeds. Cross checked their portal and made sure bandwidth consumption had not exceeded FUP limit. Next, they tried using my account through their own modem hooked up to the exchange lines. Nothing changed, same slow speed. This ruled out problems in our home line or modem equipment. The employees running the exchange didn't receive much assistance from the NIB centre. Meantime, someone at NIB doubled my account plan limit from 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps. All it did was increase the low speed performance from 256 kbps to something around 400 kbps. The next suggestion was to try do a port change for my account at the exchange. It took a day for them to do as it involved manually re-routing wires in their broadband infrastructure equipment. I got live on the changed port yesterday, but it didn't help either.Daily I get multiple calls from the local exchange, checking with me if there is any improvement, then some from NIB asking the same questions and then some from the local line-men asking what the problem is all about. I've gotten tired of repeating the same story.

can some one explain me the reason for this :-

tracert from kolkata to dethpod.com

tracert from bangalore to dethpod.com

in both the cases ,the route is same and its passing through this static-chennai-vsnl.net then how can be the latency be 350+ ms for kolkata while 80 ms for bangalore

any kind of priority be applied for data packets coming from different zones ??

This same scenario happens for every US based servers and not only for dethpod.com

In short: congestion between BSNL and Tata in Chennai - but because BSNL has multiple gateways, they give different performance based on both luck & location.

So my internet today seems to be working well (hoping it remains this way till APOCALYPSE)

I did a tracert to google and it seems like it's being routed through another Chennai server instead of the usual 59.163.207.161 - so has something changed or was it already there?

C:\>tracert google.co.in

Tracing route to google.co.in [74.125.236.216] over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 18 ms 13 ms 12 ms 117.194.64.1
4 27 ms 15 ms 9 ms 218.248.162.74
5 23 ms 21 ms 21 ms 218.248.255.22
6 52 ms 51 ms 51 ms 115.114.130.17.STATIC-Chennai.vsnl.net.in [115.114.130.17]
7 61 ms 58 ms 59 ms 121.240.1.46
8 59 ms 59 ms 61 ms 72.14.232.110
9 55 ms 65 ms 57 ms 209.85.240.147
10 55 ms 57 ms 57 ms maa03s17-in-f24.1e100.net [74.125.236.216]

Clarification:-

Not always...it still seems to run into the 59.163.206.181 one

Trace complete.

It's very unfortunate I had to bump this thread back; I'm yet again a victim of the same issue and this time, it's double the pings than the last time!

Works fine for me here nowLodge a complaint with pgportal.gov.in/ and see if that helps your situation. It did for me at leastHonestly, that's the only thing that YOU can do at the moment. No point in calling the CC or visiting the exchangeHope this helps

And my pathetic state of so-called 4mbps plan :

Finally, this is no longer linked to a certain part of the day and is the same for 24 hours. I'm posting this in the middle of the night, and my speeds and pings are as awful and pathetic as ever. Heavily disappointed.

k if u want full bandwidth just go to congestion free DNS 156.154.70.1 /156.154.71.1....
But u need to SACRIFICE for your ping/latency this gonna be horrible.....

These DNS(DNS adv) WORKS ONLY IF your CO is overloaded....

TO ALL WHO HAS SPEED PROBLEMS JUST GIVE IT A TRY. . . . . .........

actually, isp's automatic dns is the best dns....
DNS is sometimes responsible/may not be responsible or latency/speed.
This is quite complex to tell Unless u know whats exactly things are in bsnl nib..
