BSNL Broadband Slow Speed High Ping Problems

Most of the game servers are in europe. So most of the people notice the difference immediately.
And, it has affected all pings from USA to UK. And in BSNL, I already get above 500 pings to hong kong and singapore. Don't know why is that...

Maybe the ones you use... I'd expect a large amount to be in heavy-gaming coutries... like... pick any country in Asia :D

And, even if EIG comes on may, BSNL might not take the chance to take it. Most probably it may not be as cheap as the current cabling is...

I'm reasonably sure BSNL would end up utilizing it. We probably will too, though I don't think it's really our choice - I think it would just allow Bharti to shift traffic on to that cable when SMW4 goes down, and it probably is cheaper. That's usually the case with new cables.

If new cables are cheaper than the ones operating right now, I bet BSNL to move all the traffic from one cable to the other :P

I don't think it's their choice which cable is utilized. I think the big 3 charge a given rate per STM-1 (155Mbit/s) and the traffic just takes the most quickest route along whichever cable is appropriate.

BSNL probably buys 2-3 years worth of bandwidth at a time: and the price is renegotiated every time they buy more (which I hazard to guess they buy an STM64 at least once or twice per year).

I myself have been offered to take a 3 or 5-year contract at a significantly discounted rate, but I figure in 2 years max it will be less than that price anyway, and thus the deal would not be so attractive.

So in theory, I could have purchased a given amount of bandwidth for Rs X per year, fixed for 3 years. Then, say in in 2 years, I find I need to double my capacity, and so I might manage to get a lesser price equalling Y (same amount of bandwidth on the same cable, mind you).

Lets say my original cost X was equal to Rs20 per GB and the new cost Y is equal to Rs10. My total cost per GB would not come down to Rs10 until the end of the 3rd year: It would be the average of (20+10)/2, and thus Rs15 would be my average cost per GB during that 3rd year.

As such their costs fall a bit more steadily than if the lease-time was shorter.

But at the same time, the price on a 1-year lease is higher than on a 3 or 5 year lease, so it's all a numbers game :D

Undersea cables fixed - pings/latency still extremely high to USA :

UAE internet service fully restored -Etisalat, UAE Telecoms, Technology - Maktoob Business

looks like BSNL is back to using shitty US routing

"Slow Speed High Ping"... If someone is expert in Hindi Translation, then this can become a New Bollywood film name...

Maybe something is wrong with your connection, I get a fine ping of 288 for CNET.COM.

well it's around 300-343 for me at it's best but it fluctuates a lot and goes up to 500-600 ms at times with heavy packet loss (or it has been for the last 2-3 days after the cable was supposedly fixed)

Guys I use Bsnl broadband 1000 planIm having High pings for past month to All Europe servers. You also posted this in an Airtel Thread. I didn't notice at the time, but I already answered
